En s’appuyant principalement sur des archives produites par le mouvement sportif, les historiens du football ont négligé les pratiques autonomes qui se développent en dehors des clubs. Grâce au dépouillement d’archives de l’administration publique, cet article éclaire cette pratique dont l’analyse intéresse les usages légitimes de l’espace urbain et révèle des enjeux sociaux différents de ceux du sport établi : à côté d’un sport officiel dominé par les hommes, le football autonome est marqué par une présence beaucoup plus forte des femmes, qui interviennent avec autorité dans la socialisation sportive des jeunes gens.
