Estudos para reduzir as emissões de gases poluentes de efeito de estufa têm incentivado pesquisas e o desenvolvimento de outras fontes de energia isenta de poluentes ou sua redução significativa. Neste contexto, as células a combustível têm atraído grande atenção nos últimos 20 anos. Dentre os modelos de membranas conhecidas, será utilizada a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), por sua versatilidade e simplicidade de operação. As condições ideais de operação de uma PEMFC é temperatura em torno de 60 o C e umidade relativa próxima de 100%, para evitar o ressecamento da PEM, que é uma das principais causas que impedem o bom funcionamento da célula a combustível, porque a água produzida durante a reação química não é suficiente para manter a umidade requerida. Assim, este artigo apresenta o projeto de um sistema de células a combustível do tipo PEMFC acoplada a um umidificador, com o objetivo de manter a PEM (membrana protônica) úmida por mais tempo, para não interferir no desempenho da célula. A análise foi realizada para quantificar a influência de um sistema de extra umidificação na PEMFC, por meio de uma simulação matemática em Matlab®.
A indústria automotiva cresce a cada ano e devido à necessidade de contribuir com a sustentabilidade do planeta, por meio de reduções de gases de efeito estufa, muitas tecnologias já existentes despertaram interesse, principalmente a de energia solar, aplicada em tecnologias automotivas. Assim foi realizada a construção de um protótipo em que toda energia solar é aproveitada, para que o veículo funcione em velocidades baixas e com um dispositivo de auxílio de carga em altas velocidades. O protótipo foi elaborado pelo software AutoCAD 2014 que apresentou resultados satisfatórios, além de um design simples e viável.

O uso exacerbado de combustíveis fósseis acarretou riscos à sociedade e ao meio ambiente em todo o planeta. Após a identificação dos diversos impactos ambientais, busca-se soluções para amenizar os riscos à sociedade atual e às gerações futuras. A demanda global de energia está aumentando a cada ano e prevê-se um aumento significativo em todo o mundo, inclusive no Brasil, até o ano de 2030. Para reduzir as emissões de carbono e combater o aquecimento global, é essencial reduzir o consumo de combustíveis fósseis e aumentar a utilização das fontes de energias renováveis na matriz energética mundial, porém, com o surgimento da pandemia e com a Guerra da Ucrânia, foram necessárias mudanças para garantir o abastecimento de energia à população. Essa problemática vem sendo discutida por pesquisadores e governantes, principalmente no Brasil, em períodos de escassez de chuvas, que poderão comprometer o abastecimento de energia no país. O objetivo deste capítulo é discutir alguns aspectos referentes ao setor de energia no Brasil e no Mundo. Os resultados observados sobre o tema, mostram incertezas diante dos acordos internacionais, que buscam soluções para alcançar as metas estabelecidas na redução de emissões de gases de efeito estufa. Por meio do método indutivo e das técnicas de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, conclui-se que apesar de todos os esforços mundiais, é necessário estabelecer metas concretas para o avanço de novas tecnologias, que implica em ações conjuntas de pesquisadores, investimentos e responsabilidades federais e estaduais para alcançar as emissões zero até o ano de 2050.
