As quedas representam um problema de saúde pública que pode gerar danos à qualidade de vida dos idosos, visto que uma das principais condições implicadas no episódio é o comprometimento do equilíbrio postural, que aumenta progressivamente com a idade. Assim este estudo teve como objetivo comparar as características de idosos de uma Instituição de longa permanência para idosos (ILPI) e de uma comunidade, que sofreram quedas, levando em consideração os fatores associados à ocorrência de tal evento. Pesquisa observacional, quantitativa do tipo descritiva, com amostra constituída por doze idosos institucionalizados e nove idosos da comunidade com histórico de quedas, para os quais foi aplicado um questionário contendo dados sociodemográficos e realizados testes para verificar riscos de quedas (Timed Up and Go - TUG, Índice de Tinetti e Downton) e força muscular (teste de sentar e levantar de 30 segundos – TSL30 e força de preensão manual - FPM). A comparação entre as variáveis qualitativas não ordinais foi medida através do teste Qui-quadrado de Pearson e para as ordinais, o teste de Mann Whitney. Para as variáveis quantitativas foi utilizado o teste T de Student. O nível de significância adotado para ambos aos testes foi de 5% (p<0,05). Foram verificadas distinções significativas entre os idosos nos resultados dos testes TUG, TSL30 e FPM, sendo o grupo da comunidade o que apresentou melhor desempenho (p=0,01, 0,03 e 0,05, respectivamente). Sendo assim, foi possível concluir que idosos que residem em ILPI tem maior chance de cair e maior número de fatores de risco para quedas do que idosos que vivem na comunidade.
Este estudo tem por objetivo verificar os efeitos de um programa de reabilitação nas características de mobilidade dos idosos institucionalizados. Os idosos realizaram avaliação física através dos testes para funcionamento de atividades de simples e dupla tarefa; teste de força muscular de membros superiores e inferiores e Teste Timed Up And Go. Ao término da avaliação os idosos foram submetidos a um protocolo de tratamento de 16 sessões, 2 vezes por semana que consistiu em: Treino de marcha, treino de equilíbrio e treino de força muscular. Ao término, todos foram reavaliados através dos mesmos testes inicias. A análise das variáveis quantitativas foi realizada através do teste t de Student, com significância de p<0,05. Participaram do estudo 7 idosos de ambos os sexos, com idade entre 67 a 88 anos, predominando o sexo feminino e as principais patologias referidas foram depressão e hipertensão. O protocolo fisioterapêutico utilizado estabeleceu melhora estatisticamente significativa na força muscular de membros superiores (p=0,016 e 0,039), através do teste força de preensão manual. Em suma, os resultados demonstram que o protocolo foi efetivo para ganho de força, porém sugere-se maior frequência de sessões semanais que poderá beneficiar o público nas demais variáveis avaliadas.
