A pimenta-do-reino (Piper nigrum L.) é uma planta trepadeira, pertencente à família Piperaceae. Ela é originária do Sudeste Asiático, sendo a mais comum e importante das especiarias. A fusariose, também conhecida por podridão do pé e podridão das raízes é a principal doença da cultura, de ocorrência restrita ao Brasil. Um isolado de Fusarium sp., encontrado infectando plantas de pimenta-do-reino cv. bragantina no município de União dos Palmares em Alagoas, foi caracterizado morfologicamente e teve sua patogenicidade confirmada em mudas deste hospedeiro. Os macroconídios apresentaram-se falcados, hialinos com três a cinco septos, com dimensões de 30,5 - 26,5 x 6,3 - 4,9 ìm, enquanto os microconídios apresentaram-se hialinos, unicelulares, elípticos ou alantóides medindo 16,6 - 4,9 x 6,5 - 3,3 ìm. Os clamidósporos foram abundantes em meio batata-dextrose-ágar. O isolado foi identificado como Fusarium solani f. sp. piperis Alb. tratando-se do primeiro relato deste patógeno em pimenta-do-reino no estado de Alagoas.
O maracujazeiro é uma cultura de grande importância econômica nos países tropicais, destacando-se o Brasil como o maior produtor. No presente trabalho, é relatada a infecção de plantas de maracujazeiro por um vírus do gênero Begomovirus, família Geminiviridae, no município de Anadia, Estado de Alagoas. As plantas infectadas apresentavam sintomas de mosaico amarelo, redução drástica de crescimento e da área foliar. DNA extraído de plantas sintomáticas foi empregado como molde em PCRs, contendo os pares de primers PAL1v1978 e par1C496 ou PBL1v2040 e PCRc1 que direcionam, respectivamente, a amplificação de regiões de aproximadamente 1,2 kb do DNA-A e 0,6 kb do DNA-B, do genoma dos begomovírus. Fragmentos de tamanho esperado foram amplificados a partir de amostras de plantas sintomáticas, confirmando a infecção por Begomovirus. O seqüenciamento desses fragmentos está em andamento para uma definição precisa da espécie viral.
Scytalidium lignicola é um fungo que causa podridão negra em raízes e caules de mandioca. A esporulação de S. lignicola foi avaliada em 8 meios de cultura - BDA, SA, AvA, BSA, LCA, suco V-8, Mandioca-agar (MAND-A) e MA - sob regime de alternância de luz (12h claro/12h escuro) e 3 temperaturas (25 28 e 30ºC). Discos de 5mm de diâmetro retirados da borda da colônia cultivada em meio BDA, após 5 dias de incubação a 28ºC, foram transferidos para o centro de placas de Petri contendo 15mL de cada meio com inibidores seletivos. Após 5 dias de incubação, os esporos foram quantificados em contagens realizadas em câmara de Neubauer. O experimento seguiu delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 8 x 3 (Meios x Temperaturas). Observou-se que houve diferença significativa apenas para os meios de cultura, não havendo diferença entre as temperaturas testadas. A esporulação de S. lignicola foi superior nos meios suco V-8, BDA, MAND-A, AvA, BSA e SA, não diferindo entre si estatisticamente. Enquanto nos meios MA e LCA ocorreram as menores esporulações, também não havendo diferença entre si.
