Introdução: o redirecionamento da assistência em saúde mental para um cuidado pautado em liberdade e garantia de direitos foi marcado pela substituição dos hospitais psiquiátricos, por uma rede de serviços com características não asilares e de base territorializada. A Rede de Atenção Psicossocial (RAPS) é composta de dispositivos de saúde nas mais diversas modalidades, distribuídos nos três níveis de atenção – primário, secundário, terciário –, além das estratégias de desinstitucionalização, na concepção da garantia de direitos através da melhora no processo de autonomia e do exercício de cidadania da pessoa acometida por transtornos mentais. A Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS) destaca-se como um ponto estratégico da RAPS. Nesse sentido, o processo de consolidação e fortalecimento da Reforma Psiquiátrica Brasileira está intrinsecamente ligado com a articulação da Atenção Primária à Saúde e a rede substitutiva de cuidados à saúde mental, em busca de superar a hegemonia da assistência hospitalocêntrica. Agente ativo da equipe de saúde nos mais diversos níveis de atenção, o enfermeiro deve realizar a gerência do cuidado de enfermagem, efetivando as intervenções diretas e indiretas, refletindo sobre as melhores práticas no fluxo de cuidado ao paciente, por meio da construção de vínculos com a família, equipe e comunidade, além do conhecimento das ferramentas para o cuidar disponíveis no campo de prática e na rede de atenção aos usuários, a fim de garantir uma assistência de qualidade. Objetivo: compreender a gerência do cuidado em saúde mental realizada por enfermeiros da Atenção Primária à Saúde. Metodologia: pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, descritiva. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, com 16 enfermeiros atuantes em 14 Unidades Básicas de Saúde (UBS) orientadas pela Estratégia Saúde da Família (ESF), no período entre outubro e novembro de 2020. Utilizou-se o software Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires 0.7 alpha 2 para o tratamento dos dados das entrevistas, analisados por meio da Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin. Resultados e Discussão: após a análise do software Iramuteq, emergiram sete classes que constituíram três categorias de sentido: saberes e práticas na percepção dos enfermeiros sobre a RAPS e o cuidado em saúde mental na APS; a rede de atenção psicossocial e a gerência do cuidado de enfermagem em saúde mental na APS e potencialidades e desafios na gerência do cuidado em saúde mental em rede por enfermeiros da APS. Considerações Finais: os enfermeiros consideram a relevância da gerência do cuidado em saúde mental, contudo, ainda transitam entre o modo de atenção psicossocial e o modelo biomédico, reforçado nesse momento de pandemia. Ademais, apresentaram uma compreensão sobre aspectos da atenção psicossocial, como a escuta ativa e o cuidado integral, Results and Discussion: Results and Discussion: as os desafios relacionados ao cotidiano do processo de trabalho dificultaram a qualificação da gerência do cuidado de enfermagem em saúde mental. Espera-se que esta pesquisa possa contribuir para a compreensão da gerência do cuidado de enfermagem em saúde mental na Atenção Primária à Saúde, favorecendo a organização da rede de cuidados nesse nível de atenção à saúde
