Triatominae (Insecta: Hemiptera: Reduviidae) includes 151 extant species that are all potential vectors of Chagas disease. The relationships among these species have been recently studied based on molecular and cytogenetical approaches, and although the morphology of these insects is fairly described, wide comparative studies and cladistics analysis based on this feature are lacking. A comparative study of the terminal abdominal segments in females of 26 species of Triatominae was performed in order to evaluate their importance for the distinction of genera and species, and obtain characters to be used in cladistics analyses. The results showed that the short combined segments IX and X in dorsal view is not diagnostic for Rhodnius, and the elongated trapezoidal dorsal shape of combined segments IX and X is not exclusive of Panstrongylus. There are diagnostic features at the generic level for Rhodnius and Dipetalogaster, but not for the other genera studied. Among the structures examined, tergite IX is the most valuable for distinguishing species of Triatominae. The female terminalia is useful for the specific identification of Triatominae, but cannot be used to diagnose most genera or to directly assess supraspecific relationships. These can only be unveiled by using additional morphological and/or molecular data in broad cladistics analyses.

Inventory of the Cerambycidae species (Coleoptera) from Vila Dois Rios (Ilha Grande, Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The work was based on seven collects from January to December 2008, literature data and material housed in the Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Three subfamilies are recognized and all the 50 species are new records for Ilha Grande. Catalographic information, distribution, illustration and examined material are given. Prioninae with three species and three genera in two tribes, Mallaspini (Pyrodes) and Macrotomini (Mallodon, Mercosarthron), it represents 6% of all species. Cerambycinae with seven species and seven genera in five tribes -Callichromatini (Callichroma), Cerambycini (Poeciloxestia, Sphallotrichus), Elaphidiini (Ambonus, Eurysthea), Heteropsini (Mallosoma), Hexoplonini (Gnomidolon)-it represents 14%. New records are provided for thirteen species of Isotes Weise, 1922: I. atriventris (Jacoby, 1880), I. bertonii(Bowditch, 1912), I. borrei (Baly, 1889), I. brasiliensis (Jacoby, 1888), I. cribrata (Gahan, 1891), I. dilatata (Jacoby, 1887), I. figurata (Jacoby, 1887), I. multipunctata (Jacoby, 1878), I. puella (Baly, 1886), I. sanguineipennis (Baly, 1891), I. uniformis (Jacoby, 1887), I. varipes (Boheman, 1859), and I. vittula (Bowditch, 1911). Updates in relation to the latest catalogue are presented for nine species, and new information at state, province, or region level is provided for 35 species.

Based on material recently collected in Piauí state, northeastern Brazil, we present new records for seven species of Gerromorpha (Insecta, Hemiptera, Heteroptera). Rheumatobates crassifemur schroederi Hungerford, 1954 (Gerridae); Mesovelia mulsanti White, 1879 (Mesoveliidae); and Paravelia polhemusi Rodrigues, Moreira, Nieser, Chen & Melo, 2014 (Veliidae) are reported from the state for the first time.

A recent study of specimens in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, allowed for the recognition of two new species of Hypselotropis: H. jekeli sp. nov. from Colombia and H. jordani sp. nov. from Brazil. Hypselotropis jekeli sp. nov. is characterized by: longitudinal carina of rostrum entirely raised from apex; sides of rostrum tricarinate; antennae short, reaching only antebasal carina of prothorax; segments II–VIII narrowed and feebly impressed; lacking longitudinal carina on pronotum; lacking lateral carina on prothorax; prosternum without either furrow or ante-coxal depression; elytra strongly impressed along interstriae 1 and 2; ante-apical tubercles on interstria 4; pygidium impressed only on each side of longitudinal furrow, subtruncate at apex; and ventrite V strongly impressed, slightly projected at apical angles. Hypselotropis jordani sp. nov. is distinguished by the lack of a pronotal impression; short male antennae, reaching only middle of prothorax; and mesoand metafemora lacking dark vitta. A key to species and illustrations are provided. A cladistic reanalysis of the genus included 41 characters and 19 ingroup and 5 outgroup taxa. The resulting two most-parsimonious cladograms corroborated previous hypotheses of the relationships among Ptychoderini genera and the monophyly of Hypselotropis, with a new topology for the species relationships.

A survey of the semiaquatic bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha) from Alagoas and Sergipe, Northeast Brazil, is presented. Specimens have been obtained mainly during three expeditions carried out in 2018 and 2019. Individuals of 40 species, representing the following 18 genera and five families have been recorded: Brachymetra Mayr, 1865, Cylindrostethus Mayr, 1865, Limnogonus Stål, 1868, Neogerris Matsumura, 1913, Tachygerris Drake, 1957, Rheumatobates Bergroth, 1892, Halobatopsis Bianchi, 1896, Ovatametra Kenaga, 1942 (Gerridae); Lipogomphus Berg, 1879, Merragata White, 1877 (Hebridae); Hydrometra Latreille, 1797 (Hydrometridae); Mesovelia Mulsant & Rey, 1852 (Mesoveliidae); Husseyella Herring, 1955, Microvelia Westwood, 1834, Rhagovelia Mayr, 1865, Paravelia Breddin, 1898, Platyvelia Polhemus & Polhemus, 1993 and Stridulivelia Hungerford, 1929 (Veliidae). Alagoas and Sergipe have 35 and 31 new records, respectively. Rheumatobates trinitatis (China, 1943) and Rhagovelia plumbea Uhler, 1894 are recorded for the first time from Brazil.

The infraorder Gerromorpha (Insecta, Hemiptera, Heteroptera) comprises semiaquatic bugs, most of which live on the water surface, among floating plants or at the margins of water bodies. We made collections of these insects in the Itapecuru and Parnaíba hydrographical basins in eastern Maranhão state, northeastern Brazil, from January to December 2019. Based on the material obtained, we present new records for 23 species, 20 of which are recorded for the first time from Maranhão state.

ABSTRACT. In order to solve the affinities of the species of Isotes Weise, 1922, a detailed morphological comparative study was carried out based on type-species of Isotes and its junior synonym, Synbrotica Bechyné, 1956. Isotes tetraspilota (Baly, 1865) and Isotes borrei (Baly, 1889) had their morphology of mouthparts, endosternites, wings and both male and female genitalia compared by the first time. A new synonymy is established between Isotes borrei (Baly, 1889) and Isotes crucigera syn. nov. based on external and genitalia morphology. New structures for Section Diabroticites Chapuis, 1875 are presented and discussed.
