Mechanical Control of Cornitermes cumulans (Kollar) with the Mound-DrillTheefficiency ofthe mound-drill on the control ofthe mound-buildingtermite, Cornitermes cumulans (Kollar) was evaluated. The experiment was set with three treatments: the mounddrill, fenthion inseticide (1.5 g a.i./mound), used as standard, and untreated control. The mound-drill was engaged to the differential gear of a soil drill and the device was engaged to the three-point engagement gear of a tractor. The mounds were destroyed by the mound-drill above and below ground levei. For the chemical treatment the inseticide was mixed with one liter ofwater and appliedto the internal part of the mound. The activity oftermite workers was evaluated at 113 days afier treatments (DAT). From the 13 mounds destroyed by the drili, two shod workers activity (85% mortality index) and one showed building of another mound. There was no workers activity on the mounds treated with inseticide at 113 DAT (100% mortality).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
