O objetivo deste artigo é levantar reflexões acerca das contribuições de Machado de Assis para o desenvolvimento do conto moderno na literatura brasileira, com foco na relação existente entre os materiais literários e seus suportes impressos: o jornal e o livro. Para tanto, opera-se uma articulação entre a ideia de conto, teorizada por Poe; o desenvolvimento do gênero nos jornais oitocentistas; e a modernização da imprensa periódica no mesmo período histórico. Na sequência, discute-se a atuação de Machado de Assis como contista no Brasil do século dezenove, entre os jornais e os livros de contos, considerando os impactos da modernização da imprensa na literatura. Com isso, abrem-se caminhos fecundos a novas discussões acerca da relação imbricada entre textos e suportes literários, especialmente na literatura brasileira oitocentista.
Embora o diálogo Íon seja a única obra de Platão que aborda a arte poética como assunto central da investigação filosófica, o texto de extensão relativamente curta, identificado como um dos primeiros escritos do autor e tantas vezes encarado como um “ensaio galhofeiro” da controversa condenação de Platão aos poetas na célebre Politeía, ainda espera por leituras que tornem pensada sua relevância para os estudos literários. Com efeito, se a dinâmica do Íon gira em torno da problemática relação entre os domínios da arte/poesia e do conhecimento/filosofia, isso ocorre através da demonstração socrática quanto às limitações técnicas e epistêmicas da arte poética/rapsódica — principalmente, em função de uma noção específica de tékhne. Diante disso, por meio de um estudo atento do texto, neste trabalho proponho identificar e observar três movimentos dialéticos no Íon, de modo a destacar as teorizações acerca da matéria poética que se desenvolvem particularmente em cada um desses movimentos.
