Em pesquisa etnográfica conduzida junto a refugiados sírios entre os anos de 2017 e 2019 em cidades do estado de São Paulo, deparei-me frequentemente com narrativas de situações em que os interlocutores foram interpelados a partir da palavra “terrorista” ou de expressões correlatadas, como “homem-bomba” e “mulher-bomba”. Tais interpelações não se restringem aos sírios, mas abarcam também outros estrangeiros de origem árabe e até mesmo brasileiros muçulmanos. Neste artigo discuto esse processo de interpelação e as diversas maneiras pelas quais os sujeitos se constituem frente a ele. Para tanto, mostro como a figura do “terrorista” se constrói, no Brasil, a partir da sobreposição das categorias “árabe” e “muçulmano” e como ela pode ser acionada frente a diferentes sujeitos; apresento ainda as várias relações que os interlocutores entretém com tal interpelação, ressaltando como tais relações podem contestar ou reforçar a figura do “terrorista”.
