Acromegalia e o gigantismo são doenças de rara incidência, provocadas por tumores benignos da hipófise, que liberam hormônio do crescimento excessivamente. Dá-se o nome de gigantismo quando a patologia surge até a puberdade, e acromegalia quando ocorre na fase adulta, sem distinção entre os gêneros. Os portadores dessas doenças convivem com impactantes mudanças físicas como o aumento das extremidades, sobretudo dos pés, que acomete quase 100% dos pacientes, e as doenças sistêmicas concomitantes associadas são principalmente a hipertensão arterial e o diabetes mellitus, elevando o grau de morbimortalidade. O diabetes ainda pode conduzir a uma complicação recorrente, que é o pé diabético, aumentando os riscos de amputações nestes indivíduos. Equipes multidisciplinares são destacadas para tratar os pacientes acromegálicos e, neste estudo, o objetivo é evidenciar o papel do podólogo como profissional qualificado para atuar na análise e cuidado dos pés, promovendo a sua saúde, e auxiliando no seu bem-estar na sociedade.Neste artigo de revisão literária e caráter qualitativo, é feito um estudo bibliográfico sobre como a Podologia auxilia na qualidade de vida dos pacientes com acromegalia e gigantismo. Os resultados sugerem que a podologia é fundamental nas anamneses e exames clínicos dos pés, pois é feita de forma criteriosa, permitindo que o podólogo seja capaz de detectar as doenças por detalhes que passam desapercebidos por outros profissionais da saúde, e fazer o encaminhamento para o especialista, bem como tratar de todas as afecções dos pés destes pacientes, gerenciando pés de risco e auxiliando na prevenção de complicações de podopatias associadas.
A acromegalia é uma doença rara resultante da produção excessiva do hormônio do crescimento. O diagnóstico é essencial para prevenir suas complicações, reduzindo a morbimortalidade. Este estudo teve como objetivo, avaliar como a acromegalia pode afetar os membros inferiores dos pacientes participantes da pesquisa. Foi realizada a aplicação de questionário de autopercepção em um grupo de cinco pacientes acromegálicos, com idade entre 29 e 78 anos, contendo 8 perguntas de identificação, e 9 direcionadas a características dos pés ou eventos relacionados a estes. Os resultados apontam a presença de podopatias como onicogrifose, onicocriptose, micose aparente, hiperidrose, bromidrose, além do relato de dor advindo de artralgias. Na evidência das podopatias encontradas, pode-se atribuir ao podólogo o papel de cuidar das podopatias desenvolvidas a partir da acromegalia, auxiliar no tratamento da doença de base, e orientar quanto às melhores práticas para a saúde dos pés, a fim de obter melhor qualidade de vida.
