Este estudo tem o objetivo de analisar as representações sociais que a imprensa de circulação nacional faz dos Sertões do Nordeste nas reportagens de alcance nacional. A pesquisa está fundamentada na teoria das Representações Sociais, imagem fotográfica e jornalismo. Trata-se de um estudo de caso que analisa as imagens fotográficas disponíveis pela agência Globo e o jornal O Globo em seu portal online de notícias. São analisadas as temáticas, títulos e subtítulos de todas as fotografias disponíveis no site, correspondentes ao tema Sertão no período de 2003 a 2010. O estudo evidenciou que as imagens denotam uma representação do Sertão como local de isolamento, de seca, miséria, sem acesso a tecnologia, a saneamento, com sistema precário de transporte e rudimentares práticas agrícolas.
Este artigo se propõe a refletir sobre quais caminhos o fotojornalismo está traçando para se manter relevante e atento às críticas que dizem respeito, principalmente, às práticas que envolvem a captura das imagens de notícias. O que desencadeou as discussões aqui levantadas foi o anúncio do Prêmio do Ano do World Press Photo, que diz o seguinte: “Pela primeira vez nos 67 anos de história do World Press Photo, o World Press Photo of the Year é uma fotografia sem pessoas”. A discussão utiliza principalmente Susan Sontag, Ariella Azoulay e Charlotte Cotton para problematizar a imagem fotográfica que possui um grande impacto dentro da sociedade e não está impune às questões de conflitos de narrativas e desinformação como qualquer outra forma de linguagem. O prêmio evidencia uma forma de narrar as histórias fora de um padrão estabelecido e reforçado ao longo da história do fotojornalismo, colocando em questão um debate sobre alteridade.
Este artigo se propõe a refletir sobre as tensões existentes nesse novo lugar ocupado pelo fotojornalismo. Para esse debate trazemos exemplos de preocupações clássicas de Bresson, Freund e Capa sobre diagramação e crédito das imagens e as comparamos com as fotografias colocadas este ano no facebook por fotojornalistas contemporâneos, assim como um blog que causou a demissão de fotógrafo mineiro. A base teórica traz Bourdieu, Barthes,Pepe Baeza, Merchán, Aumont, Ramírez, Coello e Machado. O estudo evidenciou modificações na visibilidade das imagens, supressão de alguns mediadores, tensões que dizem respeito à exposição de políticas editorais e novos espaços de trocas simbólicas.
