El presente representa la tesis para completar con los requisitos para la obtención del grado académico de Doctor en Filosofía. El mismo tiene por objeto el análisis del itinerario argumental presentado por Nicolás de Oresme en su tratado De moneta (c. 1355). Para ello, se atiende a una serie de factores históricos, sociales, económicos e intelectuales que configuran los antecedentes claves para su correcta ponderación. La tesis propone una interpretación del texto oresmiano diversa de la comunmente llevada adelante por la historiografía del pensamiento, la cual tiende a interpretar al mismo como una versión anticipatoria de algunos postulados de las teorías económicas posteriores. Antes bien, plantea que la obra debe comprenderse dentro de una tradición particular de tratados de carácter publicista marcados fuertemente por la impronta que configuró el reingreso de los textos de filosofía práctica aristotélica a partir de mediados del siglo XIII en el occidente latino, lo que permitió la reconstrucción de una scientia civilis autónoma.
