Objective The present study describes the epidemiological profile of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) from the Hospital de Clínicas de Passo Fundo, Passo Fundo, RS, Brazil, between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2016.
Method Retrospective analysis of secondary data of 1,001 patients from the Hospital Cancer Registry.
Results Most subjects were Caucasian males, with a mean age of 63.68 years old. The majority of patients had incomplete elementary education and were married. In addition, 44.5% of the patients had a family history of cancer. Most subjects with a positive past or current history of alcohol intake or smoking were male. The diagnosis was mostly based on anatomopathological findings, with a predominance of adenocarcinomas and upper rectum and distal colon localization. Most lesions were in advanced stages, and the liver was the most common site for metastasis. The predominant treatment was surgery with neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy. After the first treatment, 49.0% of the patients reported complete remission. The survival rate was 78.8% in 10 months.
Conclusion The present research analyzed the profile of CRC patients.
The present study presents the case of a 66-year-old patient diagnosed with prostate adenocarcinoma 4 years earlier and treated with prostatectomy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy but still displaying high prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. The patient complaints were double vision and headaches. Upon physical examination, he displayed 6th cranial nerve paresis and 5th cranial nerve paresthesia. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam was performed, which revealed a mass on the right trigeminal cave. The patient underwent surgical removal of the tumor, and the pathological analysis of the specimen established metastatic prostate cancer as the diagnosis.Brain metastases from prostate cancer are extremely rare and mark advanced disease, with immune system failure and blood-brain barrier breach. Prostate-specific antigen levels do not correlate with the possibility of metastatic disease. Prostate adenocarcinoma is the histologic type most commonly associated with brain metastases, with the meninges being more frequently affected, followed by the brain parenchyma. The neurological symptoms more often displayed are non-focal, such as headaches and mental confusion. Surgery associated with radiotherapy is the most validated treatment.
Colorectal Cancer is common and it will often present with metastases during the course of the disease and follow-up. Usually metastasis affects liver and lungs, but other organs may also be involved. We report the case of a patient who had cancer in the recto-sigmoid transition in 2002 and had a recurrence 14 years after surgery with metastasis in the uterine body. The patient had the tumor resected and was given adjuvant chemotherapy. It is important to consider this possibility in patients with prior history of neoplasm that presents with abnormal vaginal bleeding.
To determine the epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with primary malignant brain tumors in the state of Rio Grande do Sul/RS, Brazil, from 2013 to 2019. This is a descriptive, retrospective study with a quantitative approach, carried out through analysis of secondary data collected at the Information Technology Department of the Unified Health System (DATASUS). One thousand five hundred and fifty-eight cases of malignant primary brain tumor were diagnosed. The highest prevalence of cases occurred among men (55.78%) and among individuals aged 40 to 59 years (28.34%). The macro-region with the highest incidence was the Metropolitan (45.64%). An expansion of the database is necessary, mainly in some pathological characteristics such as location of the neoplasm, histological type and morbidity and mortality and patient characteristics such as race to better predict risk factors, prevention and diagnosis.
A origem do câncer gástrico é considerada multifatorial.
