As inundações, enchentes e alagamentos urbanos - aqui referidos como eventos hídricos adversos (EHAs), geralmente relacionados a eventos de chuva intensa (ECIs) - constituem um problema crônico na região compreendida pela bacia do Canal do Mangue (BCM). A bacia drena bairros densamente ocupados da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, nos quais foram empreendidas obras de macrodrenagem urbana entre 2012 e 2019, com a finalidade de conter os desastres associados a casos de EHAs recorrentes na área. Nesse sentido, o objetivo deste artigo foi realizar uma análise comparativa dos EHAs entre os períodos anterior e posterior à instalação das referidas obras. Para tanto, foram coletados e processados dados de precipitação de três estações pluviométricas, dados de cota do nível do rio Maracanã de uma estação linimétrica localizada no baixo curso do rio e dados de maré de uma estação localizada no exutório da bacia, além de cartas sinóticas e imagens de satélite da América do Sul entre os anos de 1997 e 2021. Como resultados, foi observada a recorrência de fenômenos meteorológicos de escala sinótica na detonação de ECIs; a influência diminuta da maré na detonação de EHAs; além da elevação do limiar detonador de EHAs entre os períodos anterior e posterior às obras de macrodrenagem urbana. No entanto, foi constatado que a ocorrência dos EHAs permanece frequente na área de estudo considerada.
