The unique climate conditions of Plateau State and the numerous tourism attraction and spots has made Plateau State the home of peace and tourism and also tourist haven of Nigeria. This paper is centered on five resorts in Plateau State such as National Museum, Jos Wildlife Park, ASSOP Falls, Pandom Wildlife Park and Solomon Lar Amusement Park. Data for resort patronage were provided only in National Musem, Jos Wildlife Park and ASSOP Falls. The critical issue of concerned was on domestic and international patronage of tourist resort between 1996-2008 and the recreational facilities provided in each of the resort centres. Data were collected base on questionnaires, directly field observation and interviews. The data collected were analyzed using ANOVA and the results obtained shows that there is a significance variation in the patronage of the different resorts centres used for this study. However, the viability of tourism potentials can only strive effective in Plateau State if there is full participation of the various stakeholders in decision making process.
Background:The social and economic needs of a growing child are paramount to his or her entire well-being. As the number of orphans and vulnerable children in the country keep increasing, their socioeconomic challenges are also expanding. This research work investigated the socioeconomic well-being of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in two orphanages within Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State, Nigeria.Objectives: Four objectives were highlighted to include unearthing the level of OVC school enrolment: school attendance, vocational training, educational challenges and possible solutions.
Method:The study adopted a descriptive research design and used simple random sampling technique to select respondents for the survey. A sample size of 64 was obtained using Taro Yamane's formula. The respondents comprised 26 males and 38 females, within the age range of 2-18 years. Instruments for primary data collection were structured questionnaire for the children and key informant interview for the caregivers. Data were analysed with Statistical Package for Social Sciences computer software and presented thematically, using simple percentages, frequencies, frequency polygon, bar chart and pie chart.
Results:The study revealed that a greater number of OVC were enrolled in school, more than average maintained regular school attendance, few children obtained vocational training and many experienced educational challenges.
Conclusion:It was recommended amongst others that the government should provide adequate educational materials to OVC in orphanages, vocational education should be considered as basic education for all children, and individuals and private or public organisations should also provide the OVC with basic support to ameliorate their educational challenges.
this study examines the associated issues in delayed care-seeking behaviour from malaria in households in rural Central Cross River states. Specifically, this study examines the extent to which belief in traditional medicine and household income relates to delayed care-seeking behaviour in household members suffering from malaria. The descriptive survey method was utilized to collect data from 1,229 participants from Central Cross River State, Nigeria. 1,224 The participants were selected using the multistage sampling technique. Data was collected using a self-developed structured questionnaire and in-depth interview guide. Elicited data was analyzed using descriptor and parametric statistics. Data collected from the in-depth interview conducted on five participants in the study area were thematically analyzed. Out of the 1224 quantitative instrument distributed, 1065 was judged to valid to the researchers. The analysis revealed that belief in traditional medicine and household income were significant determinants of delay in care-seeking behaviour among grow household members suffering from malaria. The study calls for policy change towards malaria care for rural households in Central Cross River states.
