Neste artigo, problematizo as disputas ocorridas em diferentes momentos acerca dos mecanismos de reconhecimento de pessoas autodeclaradas negras e indígenas para o ingresso estudantil na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), por meio de políticas afirmativas. Busco evidenciar o modo como, em 2013, coletivos de estudantes negras e indígenas tensionaram a decisão do Conselho Universitário sobre as comissões de validação de autodeclaração. Em 2017, esses coletivos voltaram a se mobilizar em torno de nova decisão do Conselho a esse respeito, porém, em assembleias estudantis e audiência pública. Trata-se de uma etnografia baseada em trabalho de campo realizado na UFSC entre 2017 e 2018, bem como na observação das sessões do Conselho que trataram das políticas afirmativas, disponíveis on-line, no período de 2012 a 2017. As disputas evidenciaram os agenciamentos desses estudantes pelo controle da política e suas perspectivas distintas em relação aos modos de reconhecimento.
