Introducción. Más del 10 % de la población sufre alteraciones de los niveles de la hormona Tiroides sin saber que lo padece, el diagnostico se realiza con niveles bajos de hormonas tiroideas y la elevación de la TSH, esta patología es más comunes en mujeres. Tanto el hipotiroidismo como el hipertiroidismo pueden conducir a eventos cardiovasculares, arritmias e insuficiencia cardiaca. Objetivo. Determinar el impacto de las Hormonas Tiroideas sobre los componentes lipídicos, triglicéridos y niveles de colesterol HDL, porque son parte de la definición de Síndrome Metabólico. Metodología. Una revisión bibliográfica sistemática, con información de artículos tipo metaanálisis, revisiones sistemáticas y estudio de casos y controles. Resultados. Cuando se presentan alteraciones en la función de la Hormona Tiroides pueden coexistir con el Síndrome Metabólico el mismo que es diagnosticado cuando la persona presenta tres o más de los siguientes rasgos, o toma medicamentos para controlarlos, circunferencia de la cintura mayor a 89 centímetros en mujeres y 102 centímetros en varones; Niveles elevados de triglicéridos mayor a 150 mg/dl; Colesterol de lipoproteínas de alta densidad (HDL) menos de 50 mg /dl en mujeres y 40 mg/dl en varones; Hipertensión arterial y Glucosa en ayunas elevada. Ambos están asociados significativamente con morbilidad y mortalidad y, por lo tanto, tienen un impacto sustancial en el cuidado de la salud, en todo el mundo. Conclusión. El Hipotiroidismo Subclínico es más frecuente en mujeres y el riesgo aumenta con la edad, por lo tanto, hay que tener una mayor atención al riesgo de desarrollar Síndrome Metabólico. Así también el grupo de Hipotiroidismo Subclínico fue asociado significativamente con un mayor riesgo de desarrollar Síndrome Metabólico.
La infección por el Virus de la Inmunodeficiencia Humana, VIH se presenta con una variedad de alteraciones hematológicas y pueden verse como complicación de la propia enfermedad o vinculadas al tratamiento. Se caracteriza por una eritropoyesis ineficaz causada por infecciones oportunistas, neoplasias y fármacos. En este artículo se quiere determinar las alteraciones hematológicas más frecuentes que se producen en pacientes portadores del virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana atendidos en el Hospital Enrique Garcés, localizado en Quito, Ecuador. Se realizó un muestreo aleatorio simple para universo finito. El estudio es de tipo descriptivo retrospectivo de una serie de casos en la Unidad de atención integral a pacientes con VIH-SIDA del Hospital Enrique Garcés. Se revisaron las historias clínicas de los pacientes atendidos en el año 2017. Se obtuvo una muestra de 105 pacientes. Se evidenció que la mayoría (86,7%) de los casos corresponde al sexo masculino con una edad promedio de 33 años. La prevalencia de anemia fue del 13.3 %. Las mujeres presentaron más alta prevalencia de anemia. La leucopenia fue más frecuente en el grupo de pacientes con valores de CD4 inferiores 200 cells/μ. Se concluye que la prevalencia de anemia no fue muy elevada, predominó en el sexo femenino con un patrón normocítico hipocrómico. La leucopenia fue más frecuente en el grupo de pacientes con valores de CD4 inferiores 200 cells/μ. Las plaquetas en la mayoría de pacientes estuvieron en rango normal.
