El articulo reporta el caso de un paciente masculino de 53 años de edad, quien acudió a la Clínica de Servicios Odontológicos Universitarios (SERODU), en Ecuador, por presentar sonrisa gingival. No presentaba antecedentes médicos relevantes. Se le diagnosticó agrandamiento gingival, de las piezas dentarias 1.1,1.2 y 2.1 y fue tratado con gingivoplastía con láser de alta intensidad de diodo. A los 15 días de control se observó una buena cicatrización y el paciente manifestó no haber tenido dolor posoperatorio.El objetivo de este caso clínico, es mostrar los beneficios del láser de diodo de alta intensidad, para el tratamiento del agrandamiento gingival y con ello lograr una mejor percepción estética de los dientes antero superiores.
El esmalte al ser sometido a bebidas carbonatadas experimenta una coloración superficial dependiendo del tiempo al que es expuesto. Objetivo: Determinar el grado de pigmentación del esmalte evaluando las consecuencias estéticas en los órganos dentales después de ser expuestos a bebidas de uso común (café, vino tinto y gaseosa). Materiales y métodos. Estudio experimental in vitro, se realizó con una muestra de 45 dientes extraídos e hidratados que fueron sumergidos en diferentes bebidas con varios intervalos de tiempo durante 2 horas, se distribuyeron 15 dientes a bebida gaseosa, 15 a café y 15 a vino tinto, para comparar los cambios estéticos del esmalte se utilizó un colorímetro digital, los resultados se recolectaron en una tabla de Excel para poder definir que bebida es la que mayor pigmenta tuvo de acuerdo con la prueba de t student. Resultado: Existe diferencia significativa al comparar el grado de pigmentación que causan las tres bebidas, concluyendo que la gaseosa produce más tinción en las superficies dentales.
