En el contexto de la actual pandemia del Covid-19, los medios de comunicación suelen bombardear con cifras de personas afectados por el virus, y esos números los acompañan con la identidad y las historias íntimas de algunos enfermos o fallecidos. Sin embargo, al analizar a los animales no humanos en torno a la pandemia, se sigue haciendo únicamente un enfoque general (a veces, sin siquiera distinguir especies). Si bien la literatura de no ficción se caracteriza por ponerle identidad y rostro a algunos fenómenos generales, prácticamente nunca le da identidad a los animales. El libro “La vida de una vaca” (primera edición en 2008 / última edición en 2020) es una de las pocas excepciones en que esto sí ocurre. El lector se enfrenta a un autor que compra una vaca en Argentina, le pone nombre, cuenta su vida en medios de comunicación de distintos países, y la sigue por varios años. La idea es usar este ejemplo para hablar de las nuevas formas narrativas de la no-ficción y de la cobertura mediática a los animales durante la pandemia.
Algunas de las drogas más usadas y efectivas en los tratamientos antileucémicos poseen como estructura química principal anillos de quinolina y grupos estireno, lo que podría sugerir que compuestos análogos a estos servirían como posibles nuevos agentes antiproliferativos. Recientemente, uno de nuestros laboratorios sintetizó 6 nuevos análogos de estirilquinolina, candidatas para efectos antiproliferativos y/o anticancerígenos. Así, mediante el ensayo colorimétrico (MTT) se evaluó la citotoxicidad de los seis compuestos en la línea celular Jurkat de origen leucemoide. Los resultados muestran ausencia de efecto citotóxico en las concentraciones y tiempos evaluados. Además, cuando los tratamientos fueron aplicados en presencia de la fracción microsomal S9, no se alteró la viabilidad en este modelo celular leucemoide in vitro. Queda abierta la posibilidad de evaluar estas estirilquinolinas en otras líneas celulares y/o que representen otro modelo de enfermedades, con miras a tamizar efectos biomédicos promisorios.
Aunque el periodismo y la literatura comparten una larga y compleja historia, tuvieron que pasar bastantes años hasta que las relaciones entre ambas fueran consideradas objeto de estudio académico. Ya a finales del siglo XIX se practicaba en distintos países lo que más adelante se conocería como periodismo literario. Desde entonces y hasta la actualidad esas relaciones no han estado exentas de polémica. Pero también han sido y son enriquecedoras para ambas disciplinas y han dado lugar a una amplia diversidad de textos. Estos van desde las primeras crónicas hasta las nuevas narrativas de la era digital que, especialmente tras la pandemia de la Covid-19, están proliferando gracias a las nuevas tecnologías. El monográfico que se propone acepta todo tipo de propuestas que aborden la interacción entre el periodismo y la literatura, tanto desde enfoques diacrónicos como interdisciplinares o novedosos.
