Objetivo: Determinar las consecuencias y complicaciones a largo plazo de la vasectomía y la aceptación de la población de usuarios. Material y Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo en el que se incluyó 50 usuarios de vasectomía atendidos entre febrero de 1997 y setiembre de 1998 en el Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia. Resultados: Las complicaciones se presentaron en el 8% de los usuarios de este método, el 6% presentó infección e inflamación de la herida operatoria y un 2% un dolor leve en alguno de los testículos. La aceptación de 94% de los usuarios. En el 6% de usuarios, donde la vasectomía no tuvo una buena aceptación, 2 (4%) presentaron el inicio de una nueva gestación por parte de su pareja a los 8 y 14 meses respectivamente luego del procedimiento. Un usuario (2%) manifestó haber tenido un post-operatorio muy mal llevado. Conclusiones: La vasectomía como procedimiento de planificación familiar, debido a que presenta pocas complicaciones es de gran aceptación.
