Este ensayo tiene como objetivo analizar los mecanismos para el <em>governance</em> económico en el México del siglo XX. Explora el desarrollo, ruptura y posterior reconstrucción de las instituciones políticas para la concertación económica. Las preguntas que se pretenden responder son: ¿qué tipo de mecanismos de regulación política construyó el sistema político mexicano para administrar los conflictos distributivos a lo largo de su historia moderna; ¿qué factores determinaron el fin de los acuerdos tradicionales que dan pie a la crisis económico-política de finales de la década de los años ochenta?; y ¿de qué forma logró el régimen político reconstruir las instituciones que permitieran generar las condiciones para la cooperación entre gobierno, empresarios y trabajadores? El autor analiza los mecanismos que le permitieron al régimen político priísta administrar los conflictos económicos entre los actores políticos a lo largo de su historia, además de comprender el proceso de construcción de instituciones que permitieron la gobernabilidad económica después de 1987, que incluye lo siguiente: para analizar el <em>governance</em> económico se analiza el proceso de reconstrucción de los arreglos políticos tripartitas de 1987 a 1994 y el papel de los pactos económicos en la recuperación y estabilización de la economía mexicana. El marco teórico utilizado es el del nuevo institucionalismo histórico. Con esta perspectiva se desea vislumbrar el impacto de las reglas formales e informales en las estrategias y metas de los actores políticos y económicos y su efecto sobre el desempeño económico.
