El proceso de metropolización ha llevado a muchos territorios de los entornos de las ciudades a un conflicto de intereses entre la pervivencia del soporte natural y de los usos agrícolas tradicionales y la implantación o generalización de nuevos usos al servicio de lo urbano. La irrupción y la potencia de las infraestructuras necesarias para la conectividad metropolitana, ajenas a la geografía heredada, y la incesante construcción del suelo, van aislando estos espacios intermedios hasta llevarlos a su desaparición por falta de funcionalidad.Se investiga un modelo de integración funcional, temporal y paisajística que reconozca el valor de las preexistencias y las potencie como parte de un futuro híbrido.En este artículo se estudia el caso de la Vega Sur de Granada, que históricamente ha mantenido un equilibrio entre los sistemas rural y urbano, pero que como resultado del endurecimiento y engrosamiento del viario y la obsolescencia de los modos de producción agrícola ha visto aumentada su vulnerabilidad. A través de la evaluación del territorio soporte se buscan las pautas para una estructura basada en la mezcla, y se encuentra en los corredores suburbanos por un lado el riesgo y por otro la oportunidad de una nueva cohesión territorial.
