<p>Los trastornos temporomandibulares constituyen una serie de signos y síntomas caracterizados por la presencia de dolor en el área bucofacial, alteraciones funcionales, fundamentalmente relacionadas con los ruidos articulares y limitaciones en los movimientos mandibulares, que afectan entre un 20% y un 40% de la población. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar los trastornos más frecuentes que afectan a la articulación temporomandibular en estudiantes jóvenes. Se realizó un estudio observacional en 195 pacientes de la Asignatura Oclusión de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Nacional del Nordeste teniendo en cuenta como variables la presencia de ruidos articulares, dolor, restricción, desviación mandibular y deflexión mandibular. Del total de pacientes examinados, el trastorno temporomandibular más frecuente fue el ruido articular (67,5%) seguido de dolor (18%), desviación mandibular (9%), deflexión y restricción mandibular (5%). En este trabajo se detectó un importante número de trastornos temporomandibulares en pacientes jóvenes, con predominio de sexo femenino. A pesar de tener presentes todas las piezas dentarias, la gama de manifestaciones clínicas observadas puede verse influenciada posiblemente por la presencia de factores psicoso- ciales como son el stress y la ansiedad. Un diagnóstico temprano de estos trastornos permitirá tomar medidas preventivas, reduciendo el daño en la articulación temporomandibular.</p><p> </p>
<p>La simulación clínica en odontología es una he-rramienta de aprendizaje cuyo objetivo principal es la adquisición de competencias en un ámbito lo más parecido al contexto real. El uso de simu-ladores es una herramienta educativa con la que se favorece la adquisición de ciertas habilidades, destrezas, técnicas y competencias necesarias para la formación del estudiante o profesional. La simulación en odontología antes de un ciclo clínico favorece el análisis crítico posterior a la práctica, pudiendo utilizarse para reproducir diferentes casos de rehabilitaciones orales que tendrá que enfrentar el estudiante luego en la clínica y de esta manera poder observar el grado de dominio alcanzado por los alumnos.La metodología de la simulación permite el mejoramiento continuo en la calidad de la aten-ción de los pacientes, centrado en diferentes aspectos de desempeño de los estudiantes, ta-les como habilidades, técnicas comunicaciona-les y actitudinales, preparándolo para enfrentar una atención segura y de calidad.</p><p> </p>
Las restauraciones provisionales utilizadas en prótesis fija han cambiado y evolucionado en los últimos años como consecuencia de los recientes avances en odontología restauradora y ha pasado a ser un factor de grandes demandas y exigencias estéticas. En la actualidad la posibilidad de elección de resinas para provisionales en el mercado son diversas. Cada material con sus ventajas y desventajas. El presenta artículo aborda los materiales que en la actualidad son usados con más frecuencia para la confección de prótesis provisionales en nuestro mercado y que posibilidades nos brindan.
El propósito de esta revisión bibliográfica es aportar información actualizada acerca de las características de los dientes bovinos en relación con su uso como sustitutos de dientes humanos en trabajos de investigación. De acuerdo con la información registrada, los dientes bovinos serían excelentes sustitutos de la dentición humana para la realización de ensayos de laboratorio con el esmalte dental como modelo experimental.
El intervalo de tiempo trascurrido pos aclaramiento dentario es una variable significativa para la adhesión a la estructura dentaria. Los agentes aclaradores utilizados sobre la superficie del esmalte, debido a la degradación de los peróxidos empleados generan radicales libres de oxígeno que alteran la fuerza de adhesión. La literatura ha demostrado que el tiempo trascurrido desde un aclaramiento hasta el momento de la restauración es determinante para la adhesión al esmalte. El objetivo de este trabajo fue hacer una revisión de literatura sobre la influencia del tiempo pos aclaramiento dental y su efecto en la fuerza de adhesión al esmalte dental de las resinas compuestas. Para la recopilación de datos se utilizaron las siguientes bases de datos: SciELO, EBSCO y repositorios académicos, obteniéndose 36 artículos y tesis. Después del análisis, se puede considerar que el tiempo es determinante en la resistencia adhesiva y que las alteraciones posteriores al aclaramiento dentario se extienden hasta la semana posterior prolongándose inclusive hasta cuatro semanas, tiempo que la literatura estima necesario para la eliminación del oxígeno residual.
