Considerar la dimensión emocional en los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje resulta clave para el éxito del proceso educativo. Por lo mismo, la evaluación de las concepciones que tienen los docentes acerca del rol que juegan los afectos en los procesos educativos es una condición necesaria para la correcta implementación de programas de intervención en tal sentido. Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior, se evaluaron, mediante un cuestionario de dilemas, las concepciones acerca del rol de los afectos en la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de una muestra de 447 docentes de educación primaria. Los resultados indican que la mayoría de los docentes mantiene posiciones dualistas, concibiendo afectos y aprendizaje como procesos que funcionan separadamente, asignando, además, un rol determinante a la valencia de las emociones respecto de los resultados de aprendizaje que se alcancen. Asimismo, encontramos dos grupos menores de participantes, uno de ellos exhibió una tendencia a desconocer el carácter mental de las emociones, reduciéndolas a sus conductas asociadas. El otro, de características más complejas, se caracterizó por concebir a los afectos como el centro del aprendizaje, sin hacer distinciones ontológicas substantivas entre ambos tipos de procesos. Paralelamente, se identificaron diferencias en las concepciones según el tipo de aprendizaje con el que se relacionaban las emociones en la evaluación: aprendizaje de contenidos verbales o actitudinales. Se presentan los resultados y se elaboran algunas reflexiones acerca de las implicaciones educativas del estudio, principalmente en el sentido de diseñar una formación inicial docente que promueva el desarrollo de concepciones integradoras de la relación emoción-cognición.
