Abstract: In our society there is a constant concern for the quality of education and its processes, where teachers’ performance stands out as a preponderant factor. Based on it, the following general objective was formulated: To establish the specific competences that Physical Education Teachers must have to perform in school institutions, taking into account the specific educational setting. A descriptive research was designed under a mixed paradigm, where the curriculum development model (DACUM) was used to interview 39 directors and teachers of schools and higher education institutions, to later hierarchize these competences by applying a questionnaire to 801 directors, teachers, and students from both types of institutions. The specific competences raised were seven in the area of knowledge, five in the area of doing, and five in the area of being. The competence that presented a greater hierarchy was in the area of being: "Acts with pedagogical leadership motivating its students to participate in the development of activities within their educational community". In relation to the averages of hierarchy of the areas, the highest ranking was obtained by the competences of the area of doing with an average of 3.66, followed by being with 3.64, and knowing with 3.53. Regarding the actors: directors, teachers, and students from Higher Institutions attributed higher rankings to the competences raised in comparison to directors, teachers, and students from School centres.
Abstract. In recent years, the growing rate of childhood overweight and obesity has alerted the world. This problem begins at early ages due to the low acquisition of healthy habits, where the family nucleus plays a fundamental role and is the most significant place for the acquisition of behaviors. Objective: To compare the level of knowledge, frequency and eating habits of parents according to the body mass index (BMI) of their children. Methods: A total of 235 parents of children aged 6 to 10 years, classified into three groups according to BMI (underweight, normal weight and overweight/obese) participated. BMI was evaluated and classified and a questionnaire of knowledge, habits and food frequency was applied to the parents. Results: It was evidenced that parents of underweight children have a better level of knowledge than those of normal weight and overweight/obese children (p=.00) and that parents of normal weight children have a better level of knowledge than those of overweight/obese children (p=.00), in all groups a low frequency of consumption of water, cheese and fast food and a high frequency of fruits and vegetables, white and red meats were reported. The overweight/obese group presented the highest percentage of children who watch television while eating. Conclusion: There is a decrease in the parents' level of knowledge as their children's BMI increases, and a high consumption of healthy foods is evident, which is not consistent with the high levels of overweight/obesity in the children.
Abstract. Knowing the institutional perception of the agents building up a community is important to improve educational services provided, and allows for the establishment of monitoring, control, and innovation mechanisms within universities to achieve continuous improvement. The objective of this research was to determine the institutional perception of students of Pedagogy in Physical Education from Chile. A total of908 students (317 women [34.9%]; and 591 men [65.1%]) with average age of 20.1±2.4 years old, enrolled in first-year (359), second year (316), and third year (233) at different higher education institutions in Chile filled the Perception of Physical Education Degree Scale. Results: Significant differences were found comparing private and public universities (private institutions showing more favorable perceptions) in university management (p=.000) and students' protests (p=.000); on the other hand, it can also be emphasized that students perceive that they need to know study techniques, especially students from municipal schools (p=.049) in relation to private institutions. As a conclusion, the most relevant institutional perception of students of pedagogy in physical education regards academic management. Future research with other variables and longitudinal character is necessary.
