Las enfermedades cardiovasculares son muy comunes en caninos, a pesar de un minucioso examen clínico y de pruebas diagnósticas como la radiografía, el electrocardiograma, la ecocardiografía y la medición de la presión arterial, todavía es difícil estimar la gravedad y la evolución de dichas patologías. Sin embargo, también debemos destacar que por lo general el corazón evidencia ciertas sustancias llamados biomarcadores, que ayudan a la hora de determinar su afección y su localización, de allí que se desarrolló esta investigación, con el único objetivo de determinar algunos biomarcadores cardiacos en caninos como predictivos de afección cardiaca, en el presente estudio se evaluaron tres biomarcadores cardiacos en treinta caninos divididos en tres grupos etarios agrupándose entre 7 a 9 años (Grupo A); 9 a 12 años (Grupo B) y más de 12 años (Grupo C) respectivamente; resultando que el grupo C presenta la mayor proporción de positividad para los marcadores en estudio seguido de los grupos A y B que igualan casos positivos, así mismo el biomarcador Tnl fue el más sensible (26,6%), seguido de TnC (20%) y BnP muestra una menos sensibilidad (16,6%). Es claro que, aunque los biomarcadores cardiacos se consideran una ayuda importante en el diagnóstico cardiológico, no pueden remplazar la información que aportan un examen clínico meticuloso y las ayudas imagenológicas como la ecocardiografía y la radiografía.
