Esta investigación – generada desde la óptica de la geografía del turismo – se centra en conocer la actividad turística presente en uno de los sitios arqueológicos más visitados del mundo, Chichén Itzá, en el sureste de México. Partiendo de la Teoría de Interacción Espacial y la Teoría del Lugar Central, el objetivo de este trabajo es medir el alcance del turismo arqueológico en este emblemático caso de estudio. La aplicación de encuestas a visitantes y de netnografía en un sitio web especializado permitió recabar información que fue procesada mediante análisis estadístico, para posteriormente ser presentada en forma cartográfica. Se concluyó que el turismo arqueológico en Chichén Itzá sobrepasa la escala nacional, propiciado en buena parte por la influencia de la promoción turística hecha a nivel nacional e internacional.
