The total sample comprised 1307 participants; all of them students of the degree of Physical Education and Human Motricity offered at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, with a mean age of 20.46 years. Psychometric analysis showed that a Three -factorial structure was viable and adequate. The factorial structure of the questionnaire was analyzed with confirmatory factor analysis. The structure of the three factors (cognitive, sleep disorders and somatic symptoms), attending to substantive and statistic criteria, showed adequate indicators of adjustment of reliability and validity. In addition, factor analysis conducted with subsamples indicated the presence of strong evidence of factor structure stability. Future research should replicate these findings in larger samples.
The purpose of the present study was to compare the scores on body shape (current, ideal and social) and body size dissatisfaction between men and women university mexican students. A total sample of 1488 participants, 735 women and 753 men, aged 18-26 years participated in this study. A quantitative approach with a descriptive and transversal survey design was used. All the participants completed the Contour Drawing Rating Scale. The results of the one-way multivariate analysis of variance, followed by the one-way univariate analyses of variance, showed that compared with the men, the women expressed a greater discrepancy between ideal and actual body shape and had higher score of social body shape and lower score of ideal body shape. However, in the current body shape statistically significant differences were not found. Because of the differences between men and women in their perception of body image found, these findings suggest that in order to design any intervention for improving the perceived body image of the students, the variable gender should be taken into account.
The objective of this research was to compare the profiles of perceived self-efficacy in alimentary care behaviors and physical health of men and women university students. The overall sample consisted of 1313 subjects; 710 women and 603 men students of the degrees offered at the Faculty of Physical Culture of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, with an average age of 20.46 years (SD = 1.87). The approach adopted in the research was framed within a quantitative approach with a descriptive design survey type. The differences found between men and women regarding their perception of self-efficacy in the care of their diet and physical health, suggest that when designing any intervention that aims to improve perceived self-efficacy must be taken into account the gender variable. Future research should replicate these findings in larger samples.
