In this paper, we implemented a Ka-band frequency synthesizer for millimeter wave seeker. We improved frequency synthesizer performance of phase noise, resolution and spurious using the DDS driven hybrid method The proposed frequency synthesizer has the bandwidth of 1 GHz, frequency switching time of below 9 μs, suppressed spurious level of below -68.9 dBc. phase noise of -113.58 dBc/Hz at offset 100 kHz and flatness of ±0.7 dB.
In this paper, we designed a frequency synthesizer with a low phase noise and fast lock time and excellent spurious characteristics using the offset-PLL(Phase Locked Loop) that is used in GSM(Global System for Mobile communications). The proposed frequency synthesizer has low phase noise using three times down conversion and third offset frequency of this synthesizer is created by DDS(Direct Digital Synthesizer) to have high frequency resolution. Also, this synthesizer has fast switching speed using DAC(Digital to Analog Converter). but phase noise degraded due to DAC. we improved performance using the DAC noise filter.
In this study, a Ka-band waveguide rotary joint that can be applied to a millimeter-wave seeker is designed and fabricated. The proposed rotary joint maintains a low standing-wave ratio and low-loss characteristics, and has two rotary axes designed to enable azimuth and elevation rotation. The rotary joint is designed as a ridge-waveguide-type mode converter and a λ/4 choke structure to match the electromagnetic wave propagation mode between the spherical and circular waveguides. A performance test using a network analyzer and a high-power transmitter to assess vibration and shock were conducted. Results showed that the rotary joint had a very low standing-wave ratio of less than the maximum of 1.19:1 and an insertion loss of less than 0.80 dB at Fc±500 MHz.
In this paper, we explained the design technique about Ka-band active limiter for protecting the receiver of a millimeter wave seeker. To implement low flat leakage power, we proposed the control circuit of active limiter to control limiter voltage with PRF(Pulse Repetition Frequency) signal and input power. This active limiter consisted of the conventional 2 stage passive limiter, a feedback circuit with a directional coupler, detector, non-inverting amplifier and over-current protection resistance. As the test result of the fabricated Ka-band limiter, it had 1 GHz bandwidth, 3.5 dB insertion loss at the small input power and -7.5 dBm flat leakage at the 4 W RF input power, respectively.
