OBJETIVO: Pacientes acometidos por Diabetes Mellitus (DM) do tipo II constituem uma população de risco para alterações auditivas, uma vez que alterações metabólicas podem afetar tecidos nervosos e vasculares, que atingem diretamente os órgãos responsáveis pela audição. O presente estudo buscou investigar o perfil audiológico de pacientes com DM do tipo II. MÉTODOS: Foi realizado um estudo descritivo, no qual foram avaliados 44 sujeitos (88 orelhas). A população selecionada encontrava-se na faixa etária de 25 a 65 anos de idade. Todos os sujeitos realizaram avaliação audiológica, sendo submetidos a audiometria tonal liminar, audiometria vocal e imitância acústica. RESULTADOS: A prevalência de pacientes com DM do tipo II foi maior no sexo feminino (77,3%). Trinta e um (70,4%) pacientes apresentavam DM tipo do II a um período inferior a 10 anos. Trinta e três orelhas (37,5%) apresentaram perda auditiva neurossensorial de grau leve ou moderado, com predomínio em freqüências altas. Na imitância acústica, 71 orelhas (80,7%) apresentaram curva do tipo A, e 83 orelhas (94,3%) tiveram presença de reflexo estapediano. CONCLUSÃO: Observou-se a ocorrência de perda auditiva em pacientes portadores de DM do tipo II, conseqüentemente, a avaliação audiológica desses pacientes é importante para o acompanhamento das alterações auditivas.
School hearing health actions in the municipality of Sobral-CE: perception of speech therapists RESUMOObjetivo: Analisar as ações em saúde auditiva escolar desenvolvidas no Projeto Escuta Sobral. Métodos: Estudo do tipo qualitativo, realizado no Serviço de Atenção à Saúde Auditiva (SASA) do Município de Sobral -Ceará, Brasil, no período de abril a junho de 2010. Participaram a coordenadora do projeto Escuta Sobral e quatro fonoaudiólogas da Residência Multiprofissional em Saúde da Família, que atuam em parceria com o projeto. A coleta de dados realizou-se através de uma entrevista semiestruturada, adotando a técnica de análise de conteúdo, de acordo com a convergência das falas, nas quais emergiram as categorias: ações em saúde auditiva do escolar; benefícios das ações; dificuldades no desenvolvimento das ações e mudanças para aperfeiçoar as ações. Resultados: De acordo com o discurso das fonoaudiólogas, percebe-se que há o desenvolvimento de ações em saúde auditiva escolar centralizadas na promoção à saúde, prevenção e identificação precoce de perda auditiva.No entanto, pontos falhos foram apontados, principalmente em relação à capacitação dos professores, parceria fonoaudiólogo e escola, atendimento otorrinolaringológico e espaço físico adequado. Conclusão: As ações em saúde auditiva escolar fazem parte da realidade do município de Sobral, embora, neste momento, ainda não plenamente. É necessário, portanto, a continuação destas ações, porém com algumas modificações quanto à elaboração de uma estrutura mais organizada, no intuito de possibilitar um atendimento de melhor qualidade aos escolares.
Introdução: A deficiência auditiva é vista como um problema de saúde pública devido sua elevada prevalência. Em meio a sociedade atual, diversos são os recursos utilizados como facilitador da disseminação de informações a respeito da promoção e da educação em saúde auditiva. Descrição: Tratou-se de um estudo de produção técnica, realizado no período de agosto de 2020 a junho de 2021, cujo o objetivo foi elaborar um livro educativo infantil, sobre o processo de triagem, de diagnóstico e de intervenção de uma criança com deficiência auditiva. O estudo foi dividido em três etapas: levantamento bibliográfico; elaboração do conteúdo e produção do material gráfico e visual. Considerações finais: A elaboração do presente livro servirá como um recurso motivador e inovador para educadores, estudantes, profissionais da saúde e familiares na abordagem e na divulgação do conhecimento sobre a deficiência auditiva infantil, como também, contribuirá na promoção e na educação em saúde de crianças, em especial, as usuárias de aparelho auditivo, favorecendo a sua visibilidade e identificação e o esclarecimento de dúvidas.
