El agua es uno de los recursos más importantes para la sostenibilidad de la vida en el planeta tierra, de ella depende la formación y el mantenimiento de todo ser vivo, se encuentra naturalmente en cualquier espacio de este planeta, y desde los inicios de la vida ha determinado los asentamientos de seres humanos representando un factor clave al momento de elegir o no algún sitio para establecer un caserío, ciudad o cualquier forma de organización humana. De allí que los ríos, mares, lagos entre otras formas de concentración del líquido sea un preciado recurso natural y marque toda actividad en torno al ser humano. Sin embargo, en las últimas décadas este recurso ha sido manipulado de tal forma que hoy en día se cuentan con estructuras hechas por el hombre para lograr controlar los cauces de ríos y artificialmente lograr la formación de una especie de lago, esto con la finalidad de almacenar el vital líquido para determinados fines. Tal es el caso de los embalses, los cuales han sido creados para múltiples fines, entre los que destacan la generación de electricidad y el suministro de agua a ciertas poblaciones. Esta investigación tiene como objetivo mostrar las diferentes metodologías aplicadas para lograr eliminar o mitigar los sedimentos que se depositan en los embalses, mediante una revisión bibliográfica. Entre los principales métodos se encuentra el dragado, flusching la dilución controlada entre otros.
