Objetivo: Verificar índice de mortalidade dos casos diagnosticados de aids, no Brasil, em indivíduos com idade ≥ 60 anos. Métodos: Trata-se de estudo epidemiológico descritivo por meio de consulta nas bases de dados Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS). A população foi constituída por todos os casos de mortalidade por HIV em pessoas de todas as faixas etárias e idade ≥ 60 anos no período de 2007 a 2016. Os dados obtidos foram analisados e posteriormente expostos em gráficos e tabelas através do programa Microsoft Excel 2010. Resultados: Neste período foram diagnosticados 121.630 casos de AIDS. A região Sudeste se sobressai com relação a todos os outros estados apresentando elevado índice de casos. O centro-oeste foi a região de menor índice comparada as outras regiões. Verifica-se que o número de homens em relação aos números de mulheres é consideravelmente maior, porém com o decorrer dos anos esse número aumentou consideravelmente. Conclusão: A aids na população idosa é hoje uma realidade que exige à profissionais de saúde diversos desafios dentre eles: implementar campanhas públicas de prevenção específicas para esta população, bem como desenvolver prática profissional a fim de ajudar a elevada demanda de idosos com essa doença.Palavras-chave: mortalidade, idosos, HIV.
