105ChemInform Abstract Regioselective reduction of the α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds (I) and (III) with sodium monoacetoxyborohydride or equimolar mixtures of sodium borohydride and acetic acid produces the allylic alcohols (II) and (IV).

Various primary (I) or secondary and tertiary benzylic alcohols (III) are reduced with sodium borohydride in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid to produce the corresponding hydrocarbons (II) or (IV).
