An analysis of 38 cases of congenital jejunal and ileal stenosis and atresia is presented. There was an overall survival rate of 55%. Between the years 1952 and 1959, the survival rate was 62% compared to 33% for the years 1945 to 1951.
Recent concepts of the etiology of these lesions are discussed. Physiologic and anatomic considerations are presented. The authors' program for the surgical management and technical aspects of the operative procedures are outlined.
