Fecal identification of rotavirus, Salmonella, Shigella. Escherichia coli (classis serotypes and invasiveness), and parasites was carried out in infants admitted for acute diarrhea during winter 1980 (Period I, N = 40) and summer 1980-81 (Period II, X = 38). Rotavinis was detected in 10% and 5.3% of fecal samples during Period I and II respectively. Bacterial recovery was .38.5% and 60.5% in the same periods. Giardia lamblia was not detected and Entamoeba histolytica was found in one case (Pericxl II). Clinical presentation of diarrhea was similar to that described in the literature. It was not possible to identify those patients excreting rotavirus in their feces by clinical parameters.La diarrea aguda constituye un probleina de salud frecuente en nuestropais.
