This article studies the relationship between ideology, testimony and literature in Horacio Castellano's novel Insensatez (2004). The main objective of this study is to analyze the ideological position of the protagonist as well as the criteria followed in the selection of real testimonies included in the Guatemala nunca más report (1998). The protagonist reads the testimonies from a literary perspective that has no moral or ideological point of view, and therefore is not attached to the process of reconciliation. The fact that the protagonist undermines and questions texts closely related to the memory genre (Sarlo, 2010; Calveiro, 2006; Richard, 2002), shows that Insensatez, as we attempt to demonstrate, is proposing a new and creative approach to testimonial and meta-testimonial literature. From this viewpoint, this novel stands for a different way of writing and reading testimonial literature because it explores reality without any ideological view, as much of the Hispano-American literature does.
