Introducción: El cáncer de mama es un problema de salud pública mundial; constituye el tipo de cáncer más común entre las mujeres. En el Perú, es la segunda causa de muerte por cáncer en mujeres. La mamografía es la herramienta diagnóstica más utilizada en los programas de tamizaje y diagnóstico; sin embargo, el autoexamen de mama es simple, de costo bajo y no invasivo. Objetivos: Determinar la frecuencia de realización del autoexamen de mama en mujeres peruanas en edad fértil, entre 20 y 49 años, y los factores sociodemográficos asociados a esta práctica. Diseño: Estudio de análisis de fuentes secundarias en base a la Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar (ENDES) del año 2008, donde se investigó la dinámica demográfica y el estado de salud materno infantil, incluyendo la pregunta acerca de la realización del autoexamen de mama. El diseño muestral de ENDES fue probabilístico, estratificado y multietápico. Se realizó análisis bivariado y multivariado para determinar la asociación entre la realización del autoexamen de mama y las características sociodemográficas de las mujeres encuestadas. Lugar: Zonas urbanas y rurales de todos los departamentos del Perú, incluyendo Lima Metropolitana. Participantes: 9724 mujeres entre 20 a 49 años. Intervenciones: El método de recolección de datos de la ENDES fue mediante entrevista directa; las viviendas seleccionadas fueron visitadas durante el período de recolección de información. Principales medidas de resultado: Prevalencia y factores sociodemográficos asociados a la realización del autoexamen de mama. Resultados: El 34,6% de las mujeres peruanas de 20 a 49 años se realizó el autoexamen de mama. Los factores sociodemográficos asociados significativamente a la realización del autoexamen de mama fueron: el tener una edad entre 30 a 39 años y entre 40 a 49 años; el poseer índice de riqueza medio, rico, o muy rico; el tener entre 1 y 2 hijos; y el haberse sometido a un examen clínico de mama por un profesional de la salud en los últimos 5 años; para todos los casos p<0,05. Además, las mujeres de la sierra y selva alta tuvieron menor probabilidad de realizarse el autoexamen de mama. Conclusiones: En la ENDES 2008, tan solo el 34,6% de mujeres peruanas de entre 20 y 49 años se realizaba el autoexamen de mama. Los factores asociados a hacerse el autoexamen de mama fueron tener 30 a 49 años; índice de riqueza medio a muy rico; 1 a 2 hijos; y un examen clínico de mama previamente. El porcentaje de cobertura de la mamografía sería aún mucho menor en el Perú.
Introducción: La deserción estudiantil en ciencias de la salud es un tema poco investigado en nuestro país. La deserción universitaria en general tiene un origen multifactorial e implicancias individuales, familiares, institucionales y sociales. Asimismo, origina pérdidas económicas ingentes en nuestro país y en los de la región. Objetivos: Determinar la frecuencia de deserción durante la formación profesional en medicina, enfermería, obstetricia y odontología, en nueve universidades del Perú. Diseño: Estudio observacional retrospectivo de corte transversal. Institución: Dirección General de Gestión del Desarrollo de los Recursos Humanos MINSA, Perú. Lugar: 4 universidades en Lima y 5 universidades de provincias. Métodos: Registro del número de estudiantes con deserción universitaria según carrera de ciencias de la salud, así como entrevista estructurada para determinar los factores condicionantes. Medidas de resultados: Número de desertores y factores condicionantes. Resultados: La deserción estudiantil para las carreras de ciencias de la salud de las nueve universidades peruanas fue de 10,20% en la carrera de medicina humana, 11,11% en la carrera de obstetricia, 9,91% en la carrera de enfermería y 5,64% en la carrera de odontología. Los factores más relevantes que incidieron en la deserción universitaria fueron de índole vocacional y económico. Conclusiones: La deserción estudiantil en carreras de ciencias de la salud alcanzó en promedio 10%, cuyo origen predominante fue vocacional y económico. El énfasis en las universidades es en el seguimiento de rendimiento académico, mas no en quienes adolecen de él. Las universidades formadoras de profesionales en el campo de la salud no tienen planes para potenciales desertores.
ResumenIntroducción: El consumo de drogas es un problema de salud pública a nivel mundial; se viene incrementando en países en vías de desarrollo. Las drogas ilegales, como marihuana e inhalantes (terokal, PVC, benzina y/o acetona), son consumidas cada vez a edades más tempranas. Objetivo: Determinar las características epidemiológicas, personales, escolares y los factores de tipo familiar (involucramiento de los padres con las actividades de sus hijos) que se asocian con el consumo de marihuana e inhalantes por los estudiantes de secundaria de Lima Metropolitana y Callao. Diseño: Estudio analítico y transversal. Lugar: Lima Metropolitana y Callao. Participantes: Cinco mil seiscientos cuarenta y siete estudiantes de 2°, 4° y 5° año de secundaria. Intervenciones: Revisión y análisis de la base de datos del estudio nacional "Prevención y consumo de drogas en estudiantes de secundaria", llevado a cabo por la Comisión Nacional para el Desarrollo y Vida sin Drogas, el año 2005. Resultados: La prevalencia de vida de consumo de drogas ilegales en estudiantes de secundaria de Lima Metropolitana y Callao fue de 5,9% (marihuana) y 4,8% (inhalantes). El consumo de marihuana fue más frecuente en hombres (7,6%) que en mujeres (2,71%), p<0,001. El consumo de marihuana e inhalantes fue significativamente más frecuente (p<0,001) en quienes no conviven con sus padres, en quienes tienen dos o más antecedentes de fracaso escolar, en quienes tienen frecuentes problemas de comportamiento en el colegio y en quienes se 'hacen la vaca' (ausentismo escolar). El tipo de colegio (público o privado) no se asoció significativamente con el antecedente de consumo de marihuana e inhalantes. Los factores de riesgo hallados para el consumo de marihuana e inhalantes fueron: tener algún problema de comportamiento o disciplina durante los estudios, dos o más antecedentes de fracaso escolar y 'hacerse la vaca'. Entre los factores de involucramiento familiar, fueron factores protectores: el conocimiento acerca de la ubicación del hijo por parte de los padres luego de la salida del colegio o en los fines de semana, el control de los padres sobre los programas de televisión que mira el estudiante, el comer junto a los padres entre 4 a 7 días a la semana y el informar a sus padres por parte del adolescente sobre el lugar donde sale en las tardes o fines de semana. Conclusiones: Existe una mayor frecuencia de consumo de drogas entre quienes tienen antecedentes de fracaso e indisciplina escolar así como disfunción familiar. Los valores positivos de participación de la familia en las actividades de sus hijos constituyen factores protectores frente al consumo de estas sustancias; el rol familiar es trascendental en la formación del adolescente. La Revista Anales de la Facultad de Medicina, órgano oficial de la Facultad de Medicina San Fernando de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos fue publicada por primera vez en 1918. El año 1995 reapareció después de algunos años de ausencia, bajo la dirección del entonces Decano de la Facultad de Medicina Dr. José Piscoya Arbañil. La mayor parte del Comité Editorial de entonces conformó el Comité Editorial que, desde el año 2000, bajo la conducción del Dr. José Pacheco Romero, ha continuado publicando la Revista con permanencia, puntualidad, visibilidad e impacto, cumpliendo el presente año 2015 quince años de gestión. A pesar de las limitaciones de recursos editoriales y financiamiento, la Revista recibió el apoyo de los diferentes Decanos y del Vicerrectorado de Investigación, habiendo sido incorporada en importantes indizadoras, así como ha digitalizado todos los artículos de Anales desde 1918 que aparecen de manera virtual en internet, con sus respectivos doi, lo que brinda más visitas, descargas y citaciones.
