El objetivo fue cuantificar el aprovechamien- to de P en 11 fincas lecheras, ubicadas en las provincias de San José, Cartago y Alajuela. Se utilizaron datos de compras de insumos, ventas de leche, com- pra y salida de animales, desde enero a diciembre del 2010. Para evaluar el aprovechamiento de P, se utilizaron 3 indicadores que permitieron analizar la eficiencia de las fincas. El número total de animales osciló entre 39 y 242. La producción promedio anual de leche fue de 300 880 kg. El área varió entre 1 y 116 ha. Las 11 fincas ingresaron en promedio 1214 (±1036) kg de fósforo, donde 70% provenía de alimentos, 16% de fertilizantes y 14% de sales minera- les. Las fincas exportaron 294 (±219) kg de fósforo, donde 90% egresó de la finca en la leche vendida y solamente 10% en la venta de animales. El total de P que salió de las fincas, osciló entre 136 y 876 kg. Las fincas ingresaron 4,1 (±0,8) g.kg -1 P de leche producida y en general, el balance de P fue positivo para todas las fincas, lo que indica que ingresó más P del que salió en forma de producto, observándose que 65% del P importado permanece en las fincas. Las estrategias para reducir la excreción de P deben ir orientadas a reducir el P en las dietas ofrecidas, dado que la mayor proporción de estos nutrientes ingresan por medio de la alimentación.
El trabajo consistió en evaluar siete especies de gramíneas a diferentes edades de rebrote y épocas del año (época seca y época lluviosa), en tres diferentes zonas agroclimáticas de Costa Rica. Se utilizó un diseño factorial 7x2x4 (especie forrajera, época y edad de rebrote) con 3 repeticiones, para un total de 168 unidades experimentales. Se evaluó la concentración de fibra neutro detergente (FND), fibra ácido detergente (FAD), lignina (LIG), digestibilidad in vitro de la materia seca (DIVMS) y digestibilidad in vitro de la fibra neutro detergente (dFND). En la zona alta se evaluaron los pastos Kikuyuocloa clandestinum y Lolium perenne, donde el mayor contenido de LIG (10,5%) se presentó en el pasto K. clandestinum con 14 días de rebrote en la época seca (interacción triple, p<0.01). El pasto L. perenne presentó el mayor contenido de DIVMS (81,1%) a los 28 días de rebrote en época seca (interacción triple, p<0.01). En la zona intermedia se evaluó el pasto Cynodon nlemfuensis; la mayor concentración de FAD (37,2%) se presentó a los 28 días de rebrote en la época seca (interacción doble, p<0.01) y el mayor contenido de dFND (72,9%) a los 14 días de rebrote durante la época lluviosa (interacción doble, p<0.01). En la zona baja se evaluaron los pastos: Brachiaria brizantha cv. diamantes, Panicum máximum cv. mombaza, Ischaemum indicum y Brachiaria brizantha cv. toledo; el mayor contenido de LIG (9,7%) se presentó a los 14 días de rebrote, durante época seca en el pasto I. indicum (interacción triple, p<0.01) y la mayor DIVMS (70,5%) a los 14 y 28 días de rebrote, en la época lluviosa en el pasto diamantes (interacción triple, p<0.01).
El trabajo de investigación consistió en la evaluación de siete especies forrajeras a diferentes edades de rebrote, en dos épocas del año y en tres diferentes zonas agroclimáticas de Costa Rica. Se utilizó un diseño de tratamientos con arreglo factorial 7x2x4 (especies forrajeras, época del año y días rebrote) con 3 repeticiones, para un total de 168 unidades experimentales. A cada muestra se le evaluó la biomasa (kg MS/ha), la concentración de materia seca (%MS), de proteína cruda (%PC), de cenizas (%CE) y de extracto etéreo (%EE). En la zona de mayor altitud se evaluaron los pastos de Kikuyuocloa clandestinum (Kikuyo) y Lolium perenne (Ryegrass perenne), donde el mayor contenido de PC (18,9%) se presentó en el pasto Ryegrass en la época seca a los 28 días de rebrote (interacción triple, p<0.01) y obtuvo el mayor contenido de CE (17,0%) en la época seca a los 42 días de rebrote (interacción triple, p<0.01). En la zona intermedia se evaluó el pasto Cynodon nlemfuensis (estrella africana) donde el mayor contenido de MS (36,6%) se presentó en la época seca a los 28 días de rebrote (interacción doble, p<0.05) y la mayor producción de biomasa (5240 kgMS/ha) a los 56 días de la época lluviosa (interacción doble, p<0.05). En la zona baja se evaluaron los pastos: Brachiaria brizantha cv. Diamantes, Panicum maximum cv. Mombaza, Ischaemum indicum cv. Ratana y Brachiaria brizantha cv. Toledo. La mayor producción de biomasa la presentó el pasto Mombaza (11507 kg MS/ha) en la época seca a los 56 días de rebrote (interacción triple, p<0.05). Finalmente, en los pastos Toledo y Ratana, los contenidos de CE se incrementaron 8,3% y 15,4% en la época seca (interacción doble, p<0.05).
