Desde la popularización de las técnicas de captura digital a finales de la década de los años noventa del siglo XX, la imagen digital se propone como una moderna estrategia de preservación y divulgación del patrimonio cultural. En este momento las tecnologías digitales nos ofrecían una importante accesibilidad, y sobre todo inmediatez y posibilidad de control, que hasta el momento la captura físico-química no acaba de aportar de forma completa.
El uso del flash fotográfico como fuente de iluminación es un recurso habitual en las tareas de documentación y digitalización de obras de arte y bienes culturales. El presente artículo realiza una revisión de los métodos de estudio desde el punto de vista de la iluminancia y la irradiancia, así como fuentes bibliográficas referidas al daño potencial de este tipo de iluminación durante su uso en el ámbito de los bienes culturales.
