Este texto aborda el estudio de los dispositivos arquitectónicos que caracterizan el hábitat de la comunidad Wayúu localizada en la península de La Guajira en Colombia, con el propósito de relacionar el valor simbólico de su hábitat contenido en sus espacios domésticos, asociados a rituales y a mitos, para dibujar algunos elementos y formas contenidas en sus arquitecturas y entender aspectos de su valor como portadores de significados. Se construyó un inventario en el que se describe y reflexiona acerca de cada uno de estos dispositivos, sus usos cotidianos y rituales, configuraciones formales y antecedentes míticos, que componen una arquitectura sencilla pero eficiente, con parámetros técnicos que merecen ser contados y protegidos por su rico contenido cultural; datos que se logró recolectar a través de estudios de campo y entrevistas. Comprendiendo la valía del patrimonio no como un pasivo de la nostalgia, sino como un activo de la memoria.
