RESUMEN:Se describe un método para localizar los tubos de una red de abastecimiento de agua potable en los que existen fugas relativamente grandes. Se deducen las ecuaciones necesarias. El cálculo de los gastos y presiones de flujo permanente se basa en un proceso iterativo que se ha utilizado extensamente en México. Se incluye un ejemplo para complementar la presentación del procedimiento y mostrar la forma de aplicarlo en un caso particular.
INTRODUCCIÓNTeniendo en cuenta que la medición del gasto en una tubería requiere de la instalación de aforadores costosos y difíciles de colocar, en tanto que la medición de las cargas piezométricas es mucho más simple y menos onerosa, en este escrito se expone un método que permite localizar los tubos de una red en los que existen fugas importantes, a partir solamente de una estimación razonablemente aproximada de las extracciones en los distintos puntos de ella y de las cargas piezométricas en los puntos de cruce en donde concurren tres o más tubos. La medición de estas cargas puede efectuarse con solo instalar en esos lugares sensores que envíen la información a un centro de registro.Además de la introducción este trabajo contiene cuatro capítulos. En el segundo se exponen los fundamentos del método propuesto; en el tercero se describe la metodología para su empleo; en el cuarto se desarrolla un ejemplo numérico y, en el último, se anotan las principales conclusiones.Según se indica al final del escrito, se están haciendo ensayos de laboratorio para estimar las pérdidas de carga por fricción y locales, con el fin de apegarse más a las condiciones de una red real.El ejemplo numérico que se desarrolla corresponde a un caso teórico y su finalidad es mostrar cómo, dadas las complicaciones y alto costo de tener sensores de presión en todos los puntos de la red, es posible, si SOLAMENTE se colocan en los sitios de cruce de la misma, determinar los tramos en donde ocurren fugas. Por supuesto que si se conocieran las presiones en todos los lugares, el cálculo de las salidas sería expedito, por cuanto bastaría calcular los gastos en cada tramo y, por diferencias, determinar a éstas. Sin embargo también se hace notar que aun en el caso de que las salidas de la red sin fugas NO se conocieran con exactitud, se puede suponer que ellas tuvieran variaciones aleatorias en torno a sus valores estimados y que aun así el método sigue sirviendo. Esto no significa que se consideren efectos transitorios en la red y tampoco que, como en algunos trabajos, se establezca una relación carga-descarga, de dudosa validez en las redes reales.Los programas de cálculo que se mencionan en el texto están a disposición de los lectores que los soliciten.Artículo recibido el 14 de septiembre de 1995 y aceptado para su publicación el 26 de enero de 1996.
