El ushnu Inka tuvo gran importancia en la dominación ideológica en los Wamani de la sierra central del Chinchaysuyu. Sobre la base de nuevas evidencias obtenidas, principalmente, en los Tampus de Huanuco Pampa, Taparaku, Chakamarka y Pumpu, propongo que el ushnu al comienzo sólo tuvo funciones de recepción de ofrendas, especialmente líquidos, en ceremonias programadas de acuerdo a un calendario instituido. Posteriormente los Inkas superpusieron funciones de observación astronómica, trato de demostrar que estos Tampus Inka fueron planificados considerando la ubicación del Ushnu así como determinados alineamientos astronómicos, basados en un posible modelo de organización espacial radial astronómica.Palabras claves: ushnu, imperio Inka, Chinchaysuyu, astronomía, organización del espacio.

El sitio arqueológico de “Huánuco Pampa”, uno de los tampus Inka mejor diseñados en los Andes Centrales durante la expansión del Tawantinsuyu, presenta evidencias de importantes alineamientos astronómicos asociados a los principales espacios y estructuras. Estos se pueden observar especialmente en la plataforma “Ushnu” y el “Inkawasi”; entre las “tianas” (asientos de piedra), nichos y accesos principales de ambas estructuras con fina albañilería Inka. Estos alineamientos están asociados a los “pasos solares” a través del zenit, anti-zenit, equinoccio y solsticios; salida y puesta de la Luna en sus posiciones extremas y; la salida y puesta de la Cruz del Sur, Alfa y Beta Centaurus. Con estas evidencias argumentamos la importancia del uso de la astronomía Inka en los grandes centros de control provincial.
En los Andes, los rituales de libación fueron la práctica social más importante en las ceremonias Inka, en las que participaban todo el colectivo social empezando por los personajes más importantes como los gobernantes, las deidades y los “Yllapa” o cuerpos de los difuntos considerados como principales. Es en este contexto que el “Ushnu” fue el correspondiente escenario de estos rituales con un protagonismo central, y que este fue percibido y descrito sutilmente en los registros coloniales españoles. El estudio en base a un análisis de las fuentes históricas, muestra la descripción en detalle de estos lugares así como la complejidad y multifuncionalidad del “Ushnu,” en relación a los rituales de libación y culto a los ancestros por parte de las sociedades andinas. También se plantea la posibilidad del uso en gran número de los “Yllapa Usno” ó recipientes para libaciones que pudieron tener un carácter mueble, y que cada ancestro de cada grupo social poseía el suyo para poder brindar.
Se propone, en este artículo, que los componentes arquitectónicos de la plataforma ushnu de Huánuco Pampa, están vinculados espacialmente con el paisaje circundante y que los rituales de libación fueron la actividad pública más importante, razón por la cual esta plataforma, además de construirse al centro de todo el asentamiento, sirvió como principio de planificación del centro administrativo-religioso inca de Huánuco Pampa.
