A hanseníase é uma doença crônica e infecciosa, causada por uma bactéria do tipo bacilo, cujo nome científico é Mycobacterium leprae, que acarreta afecções físicas, motoras, sensoriais e sociais. O presente estudo tem como objetivo descrever a atuação da Fisioterapia no acompanhamento terapêutico de pessoas com hanseníase, com base na produção científica brasileira divulgada em periódicos nacionais no período de 2003 a 2012. Tratou-se de uma revisão, com abordagem qualitativa, sendo a coleta de dados realizada no mês de dezembro/2013, nas bases de dados Scielo, Lilacs, Medline e Portal de Periódicos CAPES. Com o refinamento do material empírico, mediante aplicação de critérios de inclusão e exclusão, foram selecionados 6 artigos que constituíram o substrato de análise. Os resultados revelaram uma escassa produção científica na temática, e na região Norte não houve divulgação de pesquisas nesse tema. A maioria dos estudos são ensaios clínicos. Foi possível detectar que o fisioterapeuta desenvolve intervenções junto aos pacientes como diagnóstico, prevenção de incapacidades, tratamento e reabilitação. Para tanto, conta com um conjunto de testes e protocolos de avaliação, bem como dispõe de recursos e técnicas de tratamento e reabilitação. Contudo, reconhece-se a necessidade de investimento em pesquisa com vistas à construção de novas evidencias científicas na área.Palavras-chave: hanseníase, reabilitação, fisioterapia, modalidades de fisioterapia.
