Introducción: La cantidad y calidad de combustibles forestales determinan la frecuencia, intensidad e impacto de un incendio. A pesar de los servicios ecosistémicos que proveen, poco se conoce de los humedales costeros como los manglares y selvas inundables.Objetivo: Determinar la carga de combustibles leñosos en humedales de la Reserva de la Biosfera La Encrucijada (REBIEN).Materiales y métodos: Los combustibles leñosos se cuantificaron en tres parajes donde existe asociación de manglares y selvas inundables. Se establecieron cuatro unidades de muestreo por tipo de vegetación en cada paraje. En esta evaluación se adaptó la técnica de intersecciones planares. La carga de combustible se cuantificó y comparó por tipo de vegetación, paraje y categoría diamétrica del material leñoso.Resultados y discusión: Las selvas inundables acumularon combustibles muertos en el rango 63.19 a 151.87 t·ha-1, mientras que los manglares acumularon entre 88.81 a 152.38 t·ha-1; la diferencia de cargas no fue estadísticamente significativa (F = 1.05; P = 0.31). Con respecto a la categoría diamétrica, las cargas de combustibles finos (de 0.01 a 0.60 cm) fueron diferentes significativamente entre los parajes de los manglares (F = 3.05; P = 0.04), y los combustibles medianos (de 2.51 a 7.50 cm), entre los parajes de las selvas inundables (F = 9.93; P = 0.006). Conclusión: La cuantificación de combustibles forestales fue posible en humedales costeros, como los manglares y selvas inundables, encontrando cargas hasta tres veces mayores que en otros ecosistemas de zonas templadas. La información obtenida apoyará la priorización de zonas favorables para incendios.
En la actualidad existe poca información sobre las cargas de combustibles forestales en diferentes condiciones y ecosistemas. De acuerdo con esto, el objetivo del presente trabajo es compararla en bosques templados y selvas. Para lo cual se utilizó la metodología de intersecciones planares. Una vez recabada la información en campo, se estimaron los combustibles en toneladas por hectárea de las diferentes categorías (tiempo de retardo). Se evaluaron 24 conglomerados en seis estados de la República Mexicana, de ellos, la mitad tenía la condición de quemado. Los sitios que se ubicaron en bosque templado (Coahuila, Puebla y Jalisco) cuentan con una vegetación dominante de pino-encino y una disponibilidad promedio de 17.90 ton ha-1 de biomasa. Mientras que en las áreas con incidencia de fuego se observa una disminución considerable de combustible, de casi 10 ton ha-1. Para las áreas que se situaron en selva (Baja California Sur, Quintana Roo y Yucatán) ocurrió lo contrario, ya que los sitios donde no hubo incendio disminuyó la carga de material combustible, en comparación con los sitios quemados que mostraron un incremento superior al doble (9 ton ha-1 a casi 23 ton ha-1). Para el caso de los combustibles de 1 hora, se obtuvo una correlación cercana a 1 al nivel de 0,05, lo cual indica que no hay significancia estadística entre la disponibilidad de combustibles. Se concluye que entre más grande es el intervalo de incendio, también la cantidad de combustible crece, y la afectación a los ecosistemas es mayor.
Es importante analizar la dinámica entre coberturas de uso de suelo para comprender las relaciones existentes en las superficies donde se presentan los cambios. También, en ocasiones, las modificaciones de cobertura son ocasionados por actividades humanas, como los incendios utilizados en actividades agrícolas. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar espaciotemporalmente si existe una relación significativa entre las superficies agrícolas, pecuarias (pastizales) y forestales con la incidencia de puntos de calor, en San Luis Potosí, México. Varios autores han utilizado la percepción remota y los SIG para modelar coberturas de uso de suelo, y han aplicado diversos algoritmos con este propósito. Para estimar las superficies (forestal, agrícola y pecuaria) se aplicó una clasificación supervisada a escenas Landsat 5 TM y Landsat 8 OLI. Además, se integraron dichas superficies en modelos no lineales: polinomio (2° orden), exponenciales y potenciales, así como multivariados para estimar puntos de calor; lo que resultó en un aumento sustancial en los coeficientes de determinación en los segundos modelos. En cuanto a los resultados, es posible predecir la ocurrencia de puntos de calor de una variedad de áreas bajo la agricultura, la ganadería y la silvicultura. En este caso, la superficie forestal fue la variable más significativa, seguida de la superficie ganadera. Se concluye que existe una relación entre la presencia de puntos de calor con tierras agrícolas en el área de estudio y se puede predecir la ocurrencia de puntos de calor basados en variaciones de las tierras agrícolas, pecuarias y forestales.
Los efectos de los incendios forestales en los ecosistemas son variables dependiendo de la severidad del fuego, sin embargo su evaluación en campo significa un importante gasto de recursos, ya sea por la amplitud, o inaccesibilidad. Debido a esto se han implementado estrategias alternas, como el uso de índices espectrales derivados de sensores remotos. Sin embargo, existe un amplio número y diversidad de estos, por lo que en este trabajo se hizo un análisis comparativo en relación a la detección y clasificación de la severidad de un incendio forestal, ocurrido en 2018 en un bosque de pino-encino. Los índices se derivaron de imágenes Landsat 8 (OLI) y se agruparon como: a) Monotemporales (Consideran una sola fecha imagen): NIR, NDVI, NDWI, NBR, EVI, NBRT, BAI, OSAVI, GCI, SIPI, GNDVI, GEMI; y b) Bitemporales (Para su estimación se usan dos fechas de imágenes): RdNBR, dNBR, RBR, RI, NRI, dNDVI. Para la selección se determinó, a través de una matriz de confusión, la precisión global y el coeficiente kappa. Debido a que se observó una diferencia dependiendo del tiempo transcurrido después de la ocurrencia del incendio, se definió el índice PK (coeficiente kappa/precisión global). De esta forma, el mejor índice para la detección y clasificación de la severidad del incendio fue el NBR. También se observó que la precisión está relacionada a la temporalidad, de esta forma los mejores índices definidos después del incendio fueron: NBR, GNDVI, RdNBR, Dnbr, RBR, RI y BAI; mientras que los definidos después de lluvias fueron: NBR, NBRT, NDVI y NDWI.
