Introduction: Basketball is characterized as an intermittent sport in which currently stand out the highest intensity in which the actions occur, demanding for sport performance the optimum and homogeneous development of physical, technical, tactical, psychological and intellectual components. In this sense, the understanding of the game according to the technical and tactical actions performed and the knowledge of body's responses are important for planning, monitoring and control of the training. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the intensity of basketball tactical actions and the relationships between technical actions and intensity during the different game periods (GP). Methods: Ten athletes of the Brazilian male basketball elite participated in this study (27.60±5.54 years, 192 (27,60 ± 5,54 anos, 192,62 ± 7,63 cm, 91,60 ± 11,51 kg, 10,66 ± 4,11% de gordura) (27,60 ± 5,54 años, 192,62 ± 7,63 cm, 91,60 ± 11,51 kg, 10,66 ± 4,11% de grasa) RESUMEN Introducción: El baloncesto se caracteriza como un deporte intermitente, en el cual actualmente se destaca la mayor intensidad con que ocurren las acciones, exigiendo para el rendimiento deportivo el desarrollo óptimo y homogéneo de los componentes físico, técnico, táctico, psicológico e intelectual.
BackgroundIt is crucial to know the demands on basketball referees, in different match periods (MPs) and phases of competition, for planning referee training and subsequent successful refereeing.ObjectiveTo measure and evaluate the distance covered by referees in a match by measuring the number of interruptions, percentage of heart rate (%HR), and blood lactate concentration ([lac]) in different phases of competition and in different MPs.MethodWe studied the qualifying (QP), semifinal (SP), and final (FP) phases of a total of 12 matches (four matches in each phase) of the 2009–2010 Brazilian Basketball League. Distance covered, number of match interruptions, and referees’ %HR and [lac] were analyzed. We compared the results between competition phases and between MPs (1st MP, 2nd MP, 3rd MP, and 4th MP).ResultsRegarding the distances covered, we observed significant differences (P < 0.05) in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd MPs between the FP and the other two phases (SP and QP) throughout the match, between each phase; in the 4th MP, a significant difference was found when comparing the QP and the other two phases. Comparing the periods within each phase, we found that a greater distance was covered in the 4th MP in relation to the 3rd MP during the FP. No significant differences were found among the remaining variables.ConclusionThe distances covered by referees in a basketball match increase throughout competition phases. This information is essential for planning of training and for the subsequent success of a referee.
Competitions are considered of paramount importance for high-performancesports because they determine the entire orientation of the training process. When analyzing the calendar of the International Basketball Federation, it can be observed that international competitions occur in short periods of time. In this sense, the aim of this study was to verify the effects of the application of combined training in the short-term preparation period on the speed of athletes of the Brazilian women’s basketball team. Thirteen athletes participated in this study, who took part of the preparation for the 2015 Pan American Games. Athletes were submitted to anthropometric measures and biomotor capacity evaluation at cyclic speed -20m run, and acyclic speed - T test at the beginning (M0) and end of a 27 - day preparation period (M1). Considering the period available for training, the total duration percentage was:technical / tactical 73.7%, strength and conditioning: 5.7%, preventive: 10.5% and general and special warm up: 10.1%. After data collection, the Shapiro-Wilk test was used to verify normality and then, the Student’s T test was also applied. The main results indicate that the best time to evaluate cyclic speed (M0 and M1, respectively) was 3.34 ± 0.22s and 3.39 ± 0.21s and acyclic speed (M0 and M1, respectively), 9.30 ± 0.49s and 9.52 ± 0.57s.The results of the current study suggest that short-term intervention was not efficient to improve the cyclic and acyclic speed of female basketball athletes.
