ResumoO objetivo do presente estudo foi realizar a caracterização da caprinocultura leiteira em duas Regiões Geográficas Imediatas (RGI) pertencentes ao Semiárido Paraibano, Nordeste do Brasil. O estudo foi realizado entre dezembro de 2020 e janeiro de 2021 com visitas a 150 propriedades caprinocultoras nas RGI's de Monteiro (n= 70) e Sumé (n= 80) do estado da Paraíba. Durante as visitas foram aplicados questionários com perguntas objetivas junto ao produtor ou responsável, a fim de verificar dados associados ao proprietário, propriedade, rebanho, manejo higiênico-sanitário, nutricional e reprodutivo. Quanto ao nível educacional, 80% (n= 120) dos criadores cursaram além do nível fundamental. O tamanho das propriedades em 65,4% (n= 98) foi maior que 50 ha. Foi observado um predomínio de propriedades adotando o sistema semi-intensivo de criação (93,4%), com 78% (n= 117) realizando a exploração dos animais para cria. A grande maioria das propriedades possuíam rebanhos com mais de sessenta animais (98%, n= 147), com produção média de mais de sessenta litros/dia (72%, n= 108). Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que o perfil das propriedades estudadas nas RGI's de Monteiro e Sumé são caracterizadas por propriedades com área maior que 50 ha, com baixo nível tecnológico, falta de assistência técnica em quantidade significativa, e treinamento que possibilitem uma melhor rentabilidade da produção. Portanto, sugere-se que esses aspectos devem ser levados em conta no planejamento do desenvolvimento futuro de políticas públicas para um melhor desenvolvimento da caprinocultura destas regiões.
