Se determinó la profundidad de las capas isotérmica y activa para las masas de agua superficiales características del sector oceánico de la Cuenca Pacífica Colombiana (CPC). Se utilizaron perfiles verticales de temperatura provenientes del World Ocean Atlas 2013 (WOA13v1) de las estaciones ubicadas en 5°30'N - 81°30'W; 3°30'N - 84°30'W, y 1°30'N - 84°30'W. Se determinó la profundidad de la capa activa de las estaciones analizadas entre los 150 y 400 m y la isotérmica entre 10 y 30 m. El contenido de calor promedio de la capa activa en las aguas oceánicas de la CPC fue de 171.9 kcal/cm2. El mínimo contenido de calor en la capa activa se encontró en la región caracterizada por ascenso de aguas, localizada al suroccidente de la CPC, con un valor de 137.9 kcal/cm2. Las estaciones localizadas en los sectores oceánicos central y norte de la región, presentaron comportamientos acordes con la actividad de la Zona de Convergencia Intertropical (ZCIT) y la corriente en chorro de baja altura de Panamá, con valores entre 176.9 y 192.6 kcal/cm2, respectivamente. La intensidad del flujo de calor de la capa activa de las tres estaciones osciló entre -6.5 y 7.3 kcal/cm2 por mes, presentándose máxima pérdida de calor del océano hacia la atmósfera en los meses de diciembre y febrero, y ganancia de calor entre mayo y julio.
Se realizó un análisis de los campos de datos oceanográficos presentados en el Atlas de los Datos Oceanográficos de Colombia 1922-2013 en mapas horizontales con la distribución de campos climatológicos de temperatura, salinidad, densidad, de cálculos de velocidad geostrófica en perfiles verticales y topografías dinámicas, en profundidades estándar, en algunas regiones de las cuencas Caribe y Pacífico de las aguas de Colombia y aledañas, basados en datos medios en una malla de medio grado de latitud y de longitud. El objetivo del análisis fue observar la mejoría de la observación de rasgos oceanográficos en los mapas ilustrados en las características de la distribución de estos parámetros en ambas cuencas, comparándolos con las anteriores versiones de climatología en la región.
