INSTRUMENTS TO EVALUATE QUALITY AND SAFETY IN THE SURGICAL CENTER -AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEWABSTRACT: This study aimed to identify the instruments in existence for evaluating quality in the surgical center. An integrative review was undertaken of the literature in the period 2010 -2015 through the use of specific search engines. Following analysis in accordance with the inclusion criteria established, 13 articles were selected. The analysis of the scientific evidence obtained made it possible to organize the results in three thematic areas: evaluation of the structure, evaluation of the process, and evaluation of the result. The instruments analyzed are more frequent in the ambit of the process and associated with the patient safety culture. The results reveal the need for further development at this level specifically through the construction and validation of instruments which are more broad-ranging, integrating the different components of the assessment of quality. DESCRIPTORS: Surgical center; Instruments; Quality of health care.

Objective: Measuring instruments play, namely, an important role in the safety and quality of care. The aim of this study consists in validating a scale conceived to evaluate the structure of the operating room (OR). Materials and Methods: Validation and psychometric evaluation were carried out of the instrument. The sample was comprised of 1019 professionals working in the OR for at least two years in 71 Portuguese hospitals; the research was conducted in 2017. Results: The results obtained in the reliability and validity tests reveal good internal consistency. The 28 items of the scale, and after the principal components analysis, were grouped into seven dimensions: “Environment and equipment”, “Resources for quality and safety”, “Circuits in the operating room”, “Facilities and operating requirements”, “Training and praxis in the operating room”, “Continuity in nursing care”, and “Specificities of professional groups”. Conclusion: The psychometric study allows us to state that the scale of structure indicators in the operating room (SIOR) is a reliable and valid instrument. Its use will permit evaluating and monitoring the structural conditions of the ORs.
ABSTRACTObjective: to present the results of the construction and psychometric analysis of the Scale "Quality Assurance Processes in the Operative Block (PQABO Scale)". Method: it is a study of methodological design for the development and test of the reliability and validity of measurement instruments. The scale is composed of 17 items and was applied through an online questionnaire to doctors and nurses with activities in the operating room. Results: The psychometric study allowed us to affirm that scale is a reliable and valid instrument composed of four factors: communication flows; strategies to support care work processes; control for safety and teamwork. The results obtained in the reliability tests reveal a good internal consistency for the total of the scale items. The Cronbach alpha value of the whole scale was 0.845 which suggests a good internal consistency of the instrument. Final Considerations: the final version of the scale demonstrates psychometric properties to measure the quality processes in the operative block, as well as their use will allow to evaluate and monitor the work processes in the ...
