In ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients with severe and profound cardiogenic shock, our initial experience suggests improved survival in patients who received immediate Impella 5.0 treatment, as well as in patients who were upgraded from 2.5 to 5.0 support, when compared to patients who received only Impella 2.5 support.

Ischaemic heart disease is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the western world. This paper provides an overview of the different treatments for one of the most common manifestations of ischaemic heart disease: angina pectoris. Besides the currently available conventional methods, several alternative treatments are described, with a special focus on transmyocardial laser revascularisation.

Rosuvastatin 10, 20 and 40 mg is significantly more effective than atorvastatin 20, 40 and 80 mg, respectively, in improving the LDL-C/HDL-C ratio in patients with cardiovascular disease and low HDL-C. Further studies are required to clarify the benefits of rosuvastatin for reduction of cardiovascular risk.
