DE PERO ROIZ SOARESO prof. Lopes de Almeida, uma das primeiras autoridades portuguêsas no conhecimento da história do século XVII, acaba de publicar nesse notável empreendimento editorial que é a coleção Acta Universitatis Conimbrigensis, de que é diretor juntamente com o prof. Joaquim de Carvalho, o "Memorial" de Pero Roiz Soares, uma das mais notáveis fontes do final do reinado de D. Sebastião e de todo o do cardeal D. Henrique, e da la. parte do período filipino, fonte essa até hoje inédita e pouco conhecida. Na verdade, o "Memorial" será imprescindível a quem queira conhecer o fim
Se hoje voltasse a empreender a tarefa que no ano de 1947 tive de lançar mão, pela exigência da lei que obriga a uma tese de licenciatura em qualquer curso das Faculdades de Letras de Portugal, por certo que apresentaria o atual trabalho noutras condições.Quanto à estrutura e à hipótese lançada -as origens de Coimbra remontam aos tempos pré-romanos e só depois da chegada dos senhores de Roma é que o aglomerado se desenvolveu largamente -nada, talvez, haveria a fazer. A tarefa ingente estaria, no entanto, no reforçar êsses pontos, recolhendo novas fontes, seguindo outras sugestões, que nos últimos anos -e felizmente r têm aparecido graças a muitas e preciosas investigações dentro e fora de Portugal. Basta citar, para dar um único exemplo, o trabalho de Guillermo L. No entanto, a publicação do presente trabalho tem tão sõmen-te uma dupla finalidade: apresentar à luz do dia uma série de hipóteses e compilar uma pequena bibliografia sõbre os mais remotos tempos de Coimbra.Que, ao menos, valha por isso.
